The love for his son Shedeur was on the conduit when Colorado brilliantly beat UCF 48-21 in their Week 5 game. Call it par with football and personal, and more so when the opponent is out to harm his quarterback son. Colorado dominated in the trenches by protecting Shedeur and, by doing so, allowing him to do what he does best. His 290 yards through the air and consistent poise under pressure spoke volumes. And what a father-son relationship this is! Even the Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe would not miss this opportunity.

On the latest Nightcap on YouTube, Sharpe was emotional when talking about the episode of Deion keeping his word to protect Shedeur. “Look, they did a great job of protecting Shedeur…they dominated this game.” Earlier this year, Deion vowed to protect Shedeur from any calamity, and the only way one can term this is defensive mastery. Coach Prime said it himself in a sit-down with Romi Bean on Coach Prime’s Playbook: “We gotta protect Shedeur. We do know that like we do every week, but we gotta stop the D run. The strategies that he was proposing spelled out louder and clearer how all that would be made possible.

Shannon Sharpe, like any other true football fan, continues to note the difference in the level of protection as well as a full comprehensive win over the University of Central Florida. After the game, Sharpe said, “This was the most complete game that they played maybe since Prime has been there… They did a great job of protecting Shedeur.” It wasn’t just the logical gridded play for him; it was witnessing what a father promised to protect his son at any cost, regardless of the force or probability.

Sharpe’s words came from a place of admiration, not just for Shedeur’s talent, but for Deion’s coaching and the promise he made early on to prioritize his son’s safety. It’s important not to turn this into therapy… but stopping Shedeur from getting hit is as simple as a father who doesn’t wish to see his kid get hurt. “You know, a lot of people said they wouldn’t even be in this position,”  Sharpe added. But here they are, now indeed sitting at 4-1, sitting there comfortably, and doing all of this with the Sanders family’s help, within them.

Deion Sanders keeping his promise to Shedeur—Is this the ultimate father-son moment in sports?

Have an interesting take?

Shedeur can be one of those players who loves to make some plays when under pressure. The head coach of UCF, Gus Malzahn, understood that, he said, “He does a good job… even when he doesn’t have time. He’ll hang in there to the last second, take a lick, and deliver the b—, and get back up the next play.” The game wasn’t without its challenges, but with Shedeur protecting the b— and making plays, Colorado thrived, showing they’re a force to be reckoned with.

Overall, Shedeur Sanders had a great game, delivering 290 yards and 2 touchdowns while being poised and accurate in the pocket. The only negative may be the interception he threw to start the game, but the Buffs’ defense ensured that the UCF didn’t put any points on the board from that turnover. Shedeur’s contribution when it came to leading the offence was important, he was constantly targeting receivers such as Will Sheppard who made 99 yards, not forgetting Hunter’s 89 yards on 9 receptions.

On defense, the Buffs never let the UCF grow into the game. Even though the score was 7-7 at one point, but the Buffs forced turnovers and three-and-outs at multiple points. KJ Jefferson did try to make some plays, but they were never enough to match what the Shedeur-led offense was doing. This victory marked the Buffs’ biggest conference win on the road since 2005!

Deion Sanders is feeling the energy, too. He’s been working hard to build a solid team culture, and it looks like it’s paying off. Everyone’s bought in, and they’re picking each other up, which makes a huge difference. It’s not just about the wins; it’s about how they’re playing together. They’ve doubled their conference wins already, which is a clear step up from last season.

Now, with a 4-1 record, the Buffs are heading into their bye week on a high note. They’re gearing up to face Kansas State next, and you can bet they’re hungry to keep this momentum going. It’s a good time to be a Colorado Buffs fan!
