Now it wouldn’t be like social media to blow things out of proportion, would it? Misconstrue comments, fabricate quotes, or outright spread misinformation. It’s an epidemic that’s hit modern society like the plague. In a media landscape where generating clicks has taken precedence over being correct, one fallacious bit of information can do a lot of damage. News travels quickly now, even quicker than legendary cornerback Deion Sanders can intercept it. Coach Prime has found himself on the end of this very epidemic. He alleges that a reporter has erroneously misquoted him. Not something Deion hasn’t experienced before. But he’s particularly vexed this time around- since it’s tied to his son Shedeur Sanders’ future.
Deion Sanders was a keynote speaker at the ProMat conference in Chicago last week. It’s a non-footballing event that’s got to do with SCM, so let’s spare the details. Here, Deion was apparently asked which NFL franchise he wishes will draft Shedeur in next month’s draft. According to Conference attendee John Sokol, Deion replied with “Let’s hope it’s New York.” Shedeur Sanders is currently perceived as a consensus top-2 QB in this draft class, and is slated by many a draftnik and analyst to go #3 overall to the NY Giants themselves. Shedeur has been flirting with the Giants on his own accord, too. Fanning the flames of this link by wearing boots clad in their team colors at Colorado’s Alamo Bowl. This meant Deion’s comment spread like wildfire. Well, he’s brought out the fire hydrant.
After his “quote” did the rounds on both traditional and social media, Deion Sanders had to step in and clear the air. He says it’s false, that he never said that. In response to an IG page relaying that quote, Deion took to the comments section and said, “THIS IS A LIE! We’re thankful for whatever God chooses for them.” The last word implies Deion is alluding to Shilo Sanders, Shedeur’s older brother, who’s also in the NFL fray. Albeit less prominently. A bunch of news outlets picked up that initial misquote, so Deion stepping in to quell the discourse makes sense.

It’s a travesty someone chose to run with a fake statement. But even if Deion Sanders didn’t explicitly mention he wants Shedeur in the Big Apple, things do seem to be trending in that direction anyway. There’s no smoke without fire. Mock drafts and experts’ intel are useful information in judging where he’ll land. But perhaps the biggest clue that Shedeur Sanders is trending towards the Giants has come from his contemporary Cam Ward.
Shedeur Sanders’ landing spot in the NFL is directly tied to Cam Ward’s. The pair is viewed as a rung above other QBs in the draft class of ’25, in their own little echelon. While interchangeable depending on who you ask, Cam is gaining traction as QB1 ahead of Shedeur in the consensus. This also extends into him being projected as the #1 overall pick to the Tennessee Titans. Projections that aren’t based on mere feelings, but the actions of Cam Ward and the Titans themselves. Cam’s Miami Pro Day on Monday, March 24th, spawned some fascinating revelations that make both his and Shedeur’s future more conspicuous.

Cam Ward’s future is reciprocal to Shedeur Sanders’ own
Since Cam Ward refrained from partaking in drills at the Combine in Indy, Miami’s Pro Day carried a ton of importance. This was going to be a prognosis of his skills, tangibles and intangibles alike. Naturally, the Titans didn’t want to leave any stone unturned before deciding if they wanted to put their franchise on his back. They made sure they were in attendance to get a good look. All of them. The Titans sent the entire cavalry to southern Florida. Not only did they pull up with the head coach, team president. They’ve also tagged along their in-house media teams. Both TV and online ones. This obviously pointed to how seriously they’re considering Cam Ward. But what went down once Pro Day began took things to 11.

Is Deion Sanders right to call out the media, or is there truth to the Giants rumors?

On ESPN’s “Get Up”, former Dolphins VP turned analyst Mike Tannebaum said he spoke to Titans HC Brian Callahan and came to realize just how strongly they’re pursuing Cam Ward. He pointed to an exchange between Callahan and Ward at the Combine to drive home his prediction that they’re going to draft him. “At one point [during Pro Day], Cam Ward throws this ridiculous completion, and he turns to the Titans’ brass. He said, ‘I’m going to solidify it today’ You know, I don’t recall a camaraderie existing between a team and a prospect like the Titans and Cam Ward in quite some time..it does feel like he is the number one overall pick.” said Tannebaum.

“Everything about this relationship feels like it’s headed that direction…They love this guy. They think that he is the right personality and the right leader,” he added. If Cam Ward does indeed go to the Titans, it opens a greater possibility of Shedeur Sanders landing with the Giants at #3. Just by the sheer process of elimination. That said, the Cleveland Browns, picking no.2, also need a quarterback. This is baked into why Deion Sanders chose to clear his stance on that misquote. You don’t want to rub the Browns the wrong way and eliminate a potential suitor. There’s a ton of moving parts in this ordeal. A lot can change over the next month before now and D-Day. But the closer Cam Ward inches to the Titans, the clearer the picture becomes for Shedeur Sanders.
