Okay, we gotta talk about Deion Sanders and the Buffs. Let’s roll back the tape. 1-11 back in 2022 and losing every single game at almost 30 points average. From that, Deion Sanders took the team to a 4-8 season. However, the point now is they lost by 7 points on average in almost every game. No matter what you say, this right here is improvement, and this 2024 season has become the hallmark performance of Coach Prime and the boys. 6-2 run and standing on the 3rd spot on the Big 12 Top 8 list. He-k it took 6 long years for the Buffs to reach this spot and the only man responsible for bringing the team up is Deion Sanders.
But the question now is, why has Coach Prime still failed to escape credibility doubts? Back on ESPN, this is exactly what the hosts talk about. “That Nebraska loss flipped their entire season around,” was what one host pointed out. Matt Rhule and the Huskers dismantled the entire offensive line of the Buffs. If we are being honest, Deion and his boys did not stand a chance. And in some way, that loss was a major boost for the overall team as well. However, there is a problem that another host points out, “Big picture, though, I don’t know what to make of Big 12 football as a whole right now.” Buffs making the cut for CFP is still up in the air.
See, the Huskers’ loss did flip everything around, but the problem is; will it be enough? Against the Rams, the whole team was on point. During the Rocky Mountain Showdown, the offensive line and defense did not repeat any mistakes they made against the Huskers. Not only that, but we also saw the boys in their top shape in that game. Travis Hunter managed to grab a defensive interception and managed to return the football up by 38 yards.

Follow this up with the Baylor game. Yes, the defense did allow Baylor to hit the 30-point mark, but Shedeur Sanders showed everyone what he was capable of. This guy managed to land a 40+ yard Hail Mary touchdown with barely 3 seconds left on the clock. This pushed the Buffs to overtime, and they won over there. And follow this with the UCF game where Robert Livingstone and his defensive mastery were on full show.
A run-heavy team was barely allowed to cross the 21-point mark. Yes, Kansas State was a disaster. Hunter was injured. The entire WR depth was all over the place because of the injuries, and the offensive line was back to acting like wafer biscuits. BUT. Shedeur Sanders is ON POINT. This dude left the game when there was still a minute left on the clock during the Huskers showdown. He went on to blame his offensive line. Against Kansas? Despite not having Hunter or Jimmy Horn Jr. by his side, my guy still managed to cross 380+ yards and land 3 touchdowns. So, can Coach Prime and Co. crack for CFP?

CFP dilemma for Deion Sanders
Why is the Huskers’ loss so important? See, Rhule and his boys were on a massive run when the season started. They had an amazing freshman QB on that turf who was making solid plays, and their defense was one of the strongest. What happened after that? 3 back-to-back losses, and now the team is standing on a 5-4 run. They got defeated by a team like UCLA last day.
What’s your perspective on:
Can Deion Sanders silence his critics by leading the Buffs to an unexpected playoff berth?
Have an interesting take?
When we go inside the committee meeting room, this will play a major role in deciding whether the Buffs can crack it. But another thing a host points out is, “It’s going to come down to matchups week by week when we go into this playoff bracket.” See, 4 games left on the board, and if Deion Sanders wants a straight ticket to the playoff, he needs 4 back-to-back wins.

Now we know that Travis Hunter and the WR depth are back. They managed to steamroll through the Bearcats with a 34-23 win, and that is a major deal. If Coach Prime and his boys manage to recreate the same magic against Texas Tech or Oklahoma St, then they should not have a major problem. Colorado is finally in the AP polls, and no one in their wildest dreams would’ve thought that this could happen. So, we just gotta wait and watch what the Buffs manage to do after the bye-week is over.
