Pilar Sanders' dedication to Shilo's recovery—Is this the ultimate display of a mother's love?

Colorado Buffaloes and Nebraska Cornhuskers have had a long rivalry and though they don’t play as frequently now, their Week 2 game was going to be competitive. However, things started looking bleak for CU after Shilo Sanders got injured during the first quarter. He sustained a broken arm after making a tackle on Nebraska’s running back Dante Dowdell. Not having Shilo on the field was a big blow to the team’s defense and eventually, Boulder lost, 10-28.

Later on, people learned that Shilo Sanders went through surgery after Deion Sanders posted images of his son in a wheelchair in the hospital. “God is Good! Can’t wait to see u back ready to go. Love ya son!” Sanders wrote. Recovery might take time and we do not know when the safety will be back, but the depth chat has Savion Riley listed as the backup.

Now while ‘Coach Prime’ has been supporting his son, so has mom Pilar. In her latest video on PilarSandersTV on YouTube, the mother shared her thoughts on Shilo’s surgery. “So this is kind of a hard vlog. It’s Sunday now and the boys are home from football… Shilo broke his forearm, life of a football mom. It’s not easy.

“Some ignoramus commented somewhere, “Oh yeah, all they need you for is popcorn and moms are really important or something like that’. … What people who are not in athletics or who are non-athletic don’t realize you deal with are the possibilities and actual injuries that happen and, like walking out your door, anything can happen… This is the other thing that moms deal with all the time.”

But that didn’t stop her from giving her best to assist Shilo in his speedy recovery; Even if that meant making some last-minute changes to her scheduled plans. Pilar was on her way to Alabama to root for her daughter Shelomi, who is now a part of the Alabama A&M Bulldogs. But phew! That’s when Shilo’s injury news reached her. Was Pilar disappointed that she had to adjust her plans? Not at all! Instead, she was willing to do anything for her son. In fact, she was even considering relocating her professional bases, which were more than 1,000 miles apart.

In the same video, she provided another update. “So the surgery went well. Very successful. Shilo is waking up now. We’ll know more later. That pain is about to hit in a couple of hours, boy.”

Have an interesting take?

Around the same time last year (September 2023), Shilo Sanders had sustained a grave injury during Colorado’s loss to Oregon. CU players put their bodies on the line. While QB Shedeur Sanders had a tough day, it was far worse for Shilo!

After the game, he had to go to the emergency room after urinating blood. “I made a tackle and I landed on my kidney or something. I got to go to the ER to get checked,” Sanders had shared in a YouTube video posted by Deion Sanders Jr. Though the safety looked fine, it was concerning for head coach Deion Sanders, who was ‘praying’ his son would be able to play against USC.

Before the game against Oregon, Shilo Sanders was heard trash-talking against the opposition team. “Why y’all so little?” he questioned and also yelled that he would “beat the f– out of every one of y’all and your coach.” And so, it is not surprising that the game was quite rough.

Then let us not forget that in January 2024, Shilo also sustained a pinky finger injury and had to undergo surgery. ‘Coach Prime’ was on a FaceTime call with his son and even joked, “Son, don’t try to get out of everything else for a pinky. Pinkies don’t ever count, Dawg.”

He even questioned, “Why don’t you do like Ronnie Lott and cut the tip off, like a real safety?” What was the coach referring to? Well, Lott had a broken pinkie before the 1986 NFL season and had it amputated so he wouldn’t have to miss playing time. The player won four Super Bowls with the San Francisco 49ers and two of them were back-to-back after losing the finger.
