The Colorado head coach, Deion Sanders, is not backing down from his firm stance on the expression of religion. With the head coach being very influential within the team, it seems that his decision to not back down has the potential for a freshly brewing controversy between the Anti-Religion Foundation and another legal group that is at odds with Sanders’ firm stance. And now, his ex-wife has also come out to support him.

She posted a video on her Instagram story of Coach Sanders’ statements on the whole controversy: “I am not ashamed of the Gospel; it’s not going to cease, it’s not going to stop. That’s what my Bible tells me, and I am going to proclaim my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ wherever I want to. Ain’t nobody gonna tell me not to give love and show respect towards my Lord and savior that has blessed me and has pulled me up from sui—- and thoughts and multiplicity of things that you don’t know.”

The statement comes after the Anti-Religion Foundation had objected to Coach Prime’s spiritual prayers with the team. and wrote a formal complaint to the college. Now that Coach Prime’s ex-wife, Carolyne, has also supported him, it seems Coach Prime will be even stronger with his stance in the future. But how did it come to this?

Well after Sanders’ involvement in using his spiritual adviser in team games and alleged incorporation of faith-based messages into the program. The Freedom From Religion Foundation came with a statement, “Using a coaching position to promote Christianity amounts to unconstitutional religious coercion.” After the statement by the foundation to the college authorities. The foundation also alleged that Coach Sanders was forcing the team players to his beliefs. But then, a major organization came to his support.

A major legal organization, First Liberty Institute, backed Coach Sanders and completely turned the controversy. The legal organization argued that Deion Sanders was within his rights to pray wherever he wanted, and the foundation was wrongly applying the law. Notably, a recent Supreme Court rule had actually favored a coach who was involved in post-game prayers and protected him from expressing his freedom of religion. But the Liberty Institute didn’t stop there.

They also objected to the university’s actions, which had given additional training on the rules to Sanders after the Freedom From Religion Organization’s statement. They raised that the training was not necessary as Sanders was acting fully within his rights and urged the university to clarify the issue. The conflict, however, didn’t end up with any lawsuit, thankfully. But it seems that Sanders’ ex-wife’s latest message has the potential to reignite the issue. But why is Sanders so deeply spiritual? Let’s dive into his life’s incident that renewed his faith in God.

Coach Sanders’ deep spiritual connection with God

This was not the first time Coach Prime was involved in such a controversy. Earlier, too, he had implemented various religious practices when he joined the Colorado Buffaloes. Then also, the FFR Foundation had raised objections. But he didn’t budge and kept sharing religious messages on social media and to his team players. He even came out with a message to the activists opposing him.

A fan account recently shared a statement of Sanders directed to the activists. “Colorado head coach Deion Sanders says he has no intention of complying with activists who demand he ‘cease infusing the football program with Christianity.” The post shared by the account read. But why is he so adamant about the issue?

Well, we all know that Coach Prime is very attached to his faith. He has told many times that his divorce in 1998 forced him to look at life from a different perspective and ultimately introduced him to God. He even talked about it in an interview with Bear Grylls. “I ran my car off the side of the highway… and it didn’t flip. I was still there. That’s when I came to the Lord and said, ‘God, you take me. I give up.” Coach Sanders was talking about divine intervention that led him to his renewed faith in God. And it seems after going through all this, Coach Sanders isn’t budging any time soon.
