It’s a new era in Boulder, and the excitement is electric. With every game, Deion Sanders has been transforming the Colorado Buffs from underdogs to contenders, rallying the team and inspiring the fan base. And now, chants of “Coach of the Year” are swirling around Coach Prime. After all, Sanders has breathed new life into a struggling program, and the recent 41-27 win over Texas Tech further solidifies his impact.

Well, who’s behind all this? Leading the charge in the Buffs’ comeback from an early double-digit deficit were Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter. Shedeur’s precision passing and Hunter’s dynamic two-way play have made them two of college football’s most electrifying talents. The win—and the spotlight—also gave Colorado sports anchor Romi Bean her moment, as she appeared in Deion Sanders’ Instagram story. The ‘Host of Coach Prime’s Playbook’ called for Coach Prime to be recognized with some hardware.

And only one such hardware deems fit right now for the Prime’s of the coaches. The reporter cried, “We need to be talking more about Deion Sanders for Coach of The Year award.” Why? Romi answers in her X post that Coach Prime himself shared on his IG story. She puts up the case, where the CU Buffs were picked to finish 11th in the Big 12 before the 2024 season even started. Now with just three games left, they took control of their own destiny. Currently second in the conference, they trail only BYU. Championship-bound baby!

Have an interesting take?

How did Sanders and Buffs pull this off?

The Buffs had a rough beginning in Lubbock. But they quickly found themselves in a 13-0 pit late in the first quarter. Colorado’s offense stumbled out of the gate, punting on its first four drives, while Texas Tech capitalized by scoring on its first three. However, the Buffs’ defense stepping up and limiting the Red Raiders to field goals twice was like finding a lifeline in a storm, proving crucial to keep the game within reach.

As long as they have Sanders (both Deion and Shedeur) steering the ship, there’s no telling how far they can go. The HC’s quarterback son revved up the engine by throwing a 23-yarder tuddy to LaJohntay Wester. They started to roll in the midway through the 2 quarter. Also, the defense needs to be given their flowers, just like the offense. Colorado held Texas Tech—the Big 12’s highest-scoring offense—under their usual scoring average of 36.4. In the closing moments of the fourth quarter, a chaotic scramble for the ba-l led to a fumble, which Shilo Sanders capitalized on, returning it for a touchdown with a six-yard dash, securing their win. And boom! Paid homage to his father’s signature touchdown dance to celebrate.

For a coach to take over a 1-11 team that lost by an average of 32.4 points per game, then turn them into a 4-8 squad last year, and now have them sitting at 7-2 and bowl-eligible with the season still ongoing is nothing short of impressive. It shows he’s identified and fixed the team’s weaknesses step by step. After what they’ve accomplished so far, can there really be any doubt about this coach being a frontrunner for Coach of the Year?
