Is Julian Lewis the missing piece for Colorado's future, or just another gamble for Coach Prime?

Okay, so, the Buffs. Deion Sanders has managed to do something that not every coach can do. Taking a team that was irrelevant in CFB to standing on the AP polls and cracking the Bowl games isn’t easy. See, 2023 was rough. Coach Prime over-promised and delivered a 4-8 run. The 2024 season, however, was supposed to be the redemption arc, and boy, oh boy, did they impress. The team is now on a solid 6-2 run, and every player on that roster feels amazing. Shedeur Sanders is finally making good plays from the pocket, and Travis Hunter is on the run for the Heisman. The future of Colorado Buffs football is looking good, but what’s a fairy tale story without some roadblock?

We spotted some news on X that could spell trouble for Deion Sanders’ 2025 run. 3-star LB Adonis Forrest Jr posted that he will be leaving the Buffs to pursue something different. “Will be in the Transfer portal December 9th with 1 year of eligibility,” Adonis posted on X. See, maybe this is a good decision. This season, he has not seen any time on the field. Moving out from the Buffs might end up doing him good for his CFB career. The dude has 1 year of eligibility left, so he wants to make it count and that is right. This does mean that Coach Prime will be losing out on another elite LB from his roster.

In 2024, this would probably mark the first decommit from the Buffs. Last year, Deion Sanders lost out on 4-star QB Antwann Hill Jr. For now, there has been barely any movement in the Colorado recruitment scene. The last time Deion Sanders took to the transfer portal was during the revamp of the entire offensive line.

However, for now? Whatever player the Buffs have on their roster seems to be doing an amazing job. Much of that credit has to go to the NFL experience Deion Sanders has brought in. Robert Livingstone and his defensive mastery have completely switched up the game for the Colorado D-line. Last season, the Buffs D-line was allowing at least 35 points on average in every single game.

This year? They have barely let anyone go past the 30-point mark. The offense, on the other hand, does need more improvement. However, the Huskers game was the revival point for the team. After that loss to Matt Rhule and Co., the Buffs went on a solid 3-win streak. Their next loss only happened because Coach Prime’s WR depth was down the drain because of the multiple injuries. While Coach Prime will lose out on Adonis, he could end up getting someone else in return.

Indiana Hoosiers and Julian Lewis’ situation

Okay, a few hours back, we spotted a wild story from Hoosiers Recruitment. “Indiana will no longer recruit 5-star QB in 2025, Julian Lewis,” they mentioned on their Instagram story. See, Curt Cignetti and Indiana are on a 9-0 run, which shows no signs of stopping. This is the same team that was 3-9 last year. This decision to move away from Julian Lewis and not risk it with a freshman QB kind of makes sense.

Kurtis Rouke has done magic for this offense and Curt will probably stick with him going into the 2025 season. However, why is this good news for Deion Sanders? Well, Hoosiers Recruitment also mentioned, “He will likely be heading to Colorado.”

If Coach Prime gets Lewis, then it will be the perfect replacement pick for Shedeur Sanders. The NFL draft is going to take away some of the elites from Colorado, and Deion Sanders needs a backup plan. This is a solid opportunity the Buffs HC could capitalize on.
