Is Shedeur Sanders unfairly haunted by his father's controversies, or is it just part of the game?

All Buffs fans, brace yourselves for a bit of a letdown. Shedeur Sanders isn’t ranked as the No.1 college football QB in the nation. In fact, he might not even crack the top 3 among powerhouse teams. That’s according to 247Sports analyst Clint Brewster, who made things pretty clear recently.

Just before the 2024 season kicks off, Brewster released his rankings for top-tier quarterbacks, focusing on win-loss records and experience. He ranked Texas’ Quinn Ewers at No. 1, followed by Miami’s Cam Ward. Georgia’s Carson Beck and Jaxson Dart rounded out the top four. And noticeably missing from this list is Shedeur Sanders.

This August 21st, CBS Sports reposted the entire list on their IG handle, captioning it with, “Do y’all agree with Clint Brewster’s Top 30 Power 4 QBs? 👀” If you’re wondering where Shedeur landed, he’s in the 5th spot. Some might see CBS’s move to highlight the top 4 while leaving out the Buffaloes QB as a subtle jab, possibly linked to an “unsaid” issue with his dad, Coach Prime.

Remember Deion Sanders’ media meltdown during his birthday? Earlier this month, in a heated press conference, Deion unleashed on CBS Sports reporter Eric Christensen. When Christensen tried to ask a question, Sanders shut him down, saying, “CBS, I’m not doing nothing with CBS. Next question.”

Though Sanders later clarified his issue was with the network and not Christensen personally, he added, “I respect you, and I’ve got love for you. But what they did was foul.” Now, it seems this icy treatment is coming back to haunt his quarterback son, who was once compared to Joe Burrow by the same network.

Shedeur Sanders is CFB’s Joe Burrow

CBS Sports analyst Emory Hunt has always been a big fan of Shedeur Sanders. Just last month, Hunt boldly compared Shedeur to Joe Burrow, praising his calm and cool demeanor on the field. Even a month later, Hunt is still singing the same tune. On August 19th, he reiterated his belief that Shedeur is the top QB in the country, saying, “I’m a big fan of what he brings to the table.”

“As a pure quarterback prospect, this is someone that does a great job playing like Joe Borrow. He is unafraid of pressure which is key No.1 for NFL quarterback,” Hunt says. He also praises how Shedeur gets everyone involved in the game, using every wide receiver and passer available. He also tries to highlight Shedeur’s clutch performances, saying, “When they needed Shedeur to drive the offense down the field in a must-win situation, he answered the call every time. This is your QB1 in the country.”

But despite these high praises, it seems CBS Sports is downplaying Shedeur’s talents. Well, possibly due to the ongoing issues between his dad, Deion Sanders, and the network. Now, whatever the unresolved trust issues between Deion and CBS, it’s clear they’re casting a shadow on Shedeur’s recognition.
