How ‘bout them Cowboys? America’s team has quite abruptly hit a wall. With turmoil from the top down, there are wholesale changes lined up in Dallas this off-season. Owner/GM Jerry Jones knew he would likely be on the lookout for a new coach come the end of the season when he kept Mike McCarthy on the leash of a one-year deal. However, the process has been expedited. This is owing to some poor roster planning, a nearly non-existent running game and a dash of misfortune with injuries.

The Cowboys are on the lookout for a new figurehead, and despite him subverting rumours of an exit, the road always seems to lead them down to Deion Sanders’ doorstep. Coach Prime has outwardly and explicitly stated he’s not leaving his current disposition at Colorado. Yet, the discourse is undying. Now, fellow Cowboys legend and Jerry’s confidante Troy Aikman has reignited this dissipating flame.

In an interview with TMZSports, Troy Aikman was asked if he could see Deion potentially being head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. “Yeah, I could see it,” he said. Aikman elaborated on why he believes Deion’s previous statement about “having his kickstand down” in Boulder is perhaps smoke and mirrors. As is with almost everything pertaining to the Cowboys, the reasons for hiring Deion run deeper than football.

Troy Aikman said, “First of all, if Deion [was] to get hired- whether it’s in Dallas or anywhere in the NFL- he gets hired because he’s a good football coach first and foremost. Secondly, I do know that Jerry is a world-class marketer. Deion, obviously, is not far behind that. I think if you were to put the two together, it would be quite interesting. I think there’s some compelling reasons as to why Jerry might have an interest. But I do know that Deion’s done a great job there in Boulder. I think when he says, ‘Hey, I put the kickstand down’ that’s simply alerting everyone that if you want him, you’re gonna have to pay for it, which is not a surprise either. So I do think that Deion could be enticed, especially with [Shedeur] moving on and going to the NFL.”

Luring Deion to Dallas has so far proven a challenge. With the likes of 5-star recruit Julian Lewis committing to Colorado, it’s conspicuous for now that Deion’s immediate future in Boulder remains intact. However, Deion has often expressed his wish to coach Shedeur in the pros. Just as he has along every step of the way through high school and college. The Cowboys’ treacherous traversal this season is going to afford them a high draft pick. Despite the father-son duo of Deion and Shedeur not necessarily being a package deal, they’re both on Jerry Jones’ radar. But there’s a massive obstacle in going down that route.

Jerry Jones’ massive off-season call having repercussions in luring Deion Sanders

Jerry’s interest in Shedeur Sanders is reciprocated. However, there’s a Dak Prescott-shaped cloud looming over it. Of all the decisions Jerry made in the preseason, the most abiding one was the very last one he made. On the eve of the NFL season beginning, QB1 Dak Prescott signed the most lucrative contract in league history.

What’s your perspective on:

Could Deion Sanders be the savior the Cowboys desperately need, or is it just a pipe dream?

Have an interesting take?

This decision is a hurdle for onboarding Shedeur and, by extension, Deion. Nobody expected the Cowboys to be in the QB market anytime soon. That said, nobody expected them to have a lottery pick in the draft, either. A few weeks ago, Cowboys legend turned media personality Micheal Irvin was asked if he thinks Deion Sanders would follow suit if the team drafted Shedeur. “I believe 100%, and I can tell you, good sources have told me that…great sources have told me that. That’s all I can say like that without violating anything else.”

So, do the Cowboys bite the proverbial bullet on Dak’s contract? You wouldn’t put it past that franchise to chase the fanfare and publicity that will come with having a “Sanders” lining up with the iconic star on their jersey at Jerry World. It is safe to assume some twists could yet ensue in this long-drawn saga. With Jerry Jones and the Sanders involved, nothing is out of the realm of possibilities.
