Deion Sanders' magic touch: Is he the best thing to happen to CU Buffs in years?

The Colorado Buffaloes have all the signs of a great football team this year. With Coach Prime at the helm of it all, the program had vital new additions to the squad and new coaches that could redevelop the roster. They’re en route to being one of the most-watched teams this year with all the hype that revolves around the Buffaloes and amid it, Deion came out with very good news and announced that there have been no injuries yet, touchwood.

Last year was a monumental disaster for the Colorado Buffaloes. They finished the season with a poor 4-8 record and were the subject of a lot of mockery but that wasn’t even the worst part of it all. During the game against Colorado State in 2023, Travis suffered a lacerated kidney after a tackle from Henry Blackburn. It was especially tough for Coach Prime when his son, Shedeur Sanders, sustained a fractured back due to the constant sacking he endured. This time, the Buffaloes will try to go into this season with a full and healthy squad as Deion expresses gratitude for not having a single player be out for issues regarding their health.

The last time Deion faced off against reporters at a press media conference, it didn’t end well for the Colorado HC. Yet, it looks like he’s turned over a new leaf since he was back to responding to all sorts of questions at the press conference post-practice in Denver. The HC talked about the state of the team and mentioned how they did great during the public practice session. What was interesting to note that the absence of the Buffs’ star WR, Travis Hunter but Deion cleared the air regarding that pretty quickly.

According to Deion, he was “proud” of the way everyone played their part on the field and laid heavy stress on the fact that there weren’t any injuries in the team. Later, he also mentioned how they are just giving Hunter some rest so he can be fully prepared for their season opener against the North Dakota State Bison on August 30th. Teams like the Texas Longhorns, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and the Tennessee Volunteers are already going into this season with some of their leading star players out of the picture, and fortunately for the Colorado fans, the Buffaloes have all of their 4 legs standing and erect.

Teams that will be missing MVPs due to fall camp injuries

When Kalen DeBoer was asked about his biggest concern going into his debut season with Alabama, his sole response was the physical well-being of his players. Seeing as both he and Deion lay such emphasis on their squads being at their best, it is evident that teams are riddled with problems such as these. Especially for Texas, Notre Dame, and Tennessee, who will enter the 2024 season with some of their biggest weapons sitting on the bench.

The Texas Longhorns will be missing CJ Baxter, who was touted to be the starting RB this season because he tore his LCL and PCL during practice. He will be sitting out the rest of the season and hopes to come back next year itself. Next, The Fighting Irish will come out onto the battlefield with all the right spirit yet not the best swords since Charles Jagusah suffered a shoulder injury that will put him out for this year. Lastly, Jordan Thomas of the Tennessee Volunteers suffered an unfortunate knee injury in practise but will now look on from the sidelines as his comrades try to bring in the wins. Thus, practice sessions can seemingly make or break a team’s playoff chances and as such, Deion is right to be counting his lucky stars.
