And just when you thought things were finally getting stable with Deion Sanders and the Buffs, the entire redshirt incident happened. The Buffs are on a roll right now, coming off of their by-week after a 3-win run and climbing to the 2nd rank on the Big 12 list, Deion Sanders’ year of redemption is going great. However, the defense has taken a hit and Coach Prime is now looking to reshuffle the entire Buffs defense for the final 7 games on their schedule.
However, Deion Sanders’ big announcement regarding 2 of the LB redshirting has sparked a big debate. Bigsnackks took to his YouTube channel to call the entire move ‘stupid’. “But, man, I don’t understand it. All this stupidity and crazy stuff,” Bigsnackks mentioned in his video. 2 veteran players from the defensive line, Trevor Woords and Jeremiah Brown, were absent during the UCF game.

This sparked some rumors, as none of these players were injured or had any valid reason to be benched. However, Deion Sanders announced that both Woods and Brown have decided to redshirt and sit out the rest of the season to save their year of eligibility.
Both players have played an important role in Coach Prime’s revamped defensive line. Still, we did see the Buffs perform exceptionally against a run-heavy team like the Knights without Woods or Brown present. So, it is safe to say that LaVonta Bentley and Nikhai Hill-Green are taking up the mantle quite well. With Robert Livingstone’s guidance, the D-line won’t be faltering any time soon.
But this entire redshirting thing does make us wonder if the NCAA should actually rethink the rules and make some changes. Deion ain’t the only coach who is going to lose out on some key players this year.

Redshirting drama
Back on September 26th, we had covered how Rebels RB Michael Allen had decided to leave the roster and redshirt. Allen’s main claim was that he was looking for better opportunities, as the Rebels were unable to fulfill his expectations.
The weird thing about this was that this happened right after Rebels QB Matthew Sluka decided to redshirt mid-season. Sluka’s decision was based on the fact that he was promised a sum of $100k for joining the team but never got the money.

Even Trojans HC Lincoln Riley lost his defensive lineman Bear Alexander. Alexander had announced that he would sit out the rest of the season and look to hit the transfer after the games were over. Apparently Bear was unhappy regarding his reduced role in the roster.
These moves have sparked a whole debate regarding the redshirting option. Riley had been quite vocal regarding the entire rule system and has noted, “I think guys should have five years.” There is little to no possibility of the NCAA making any changes to the rules, but do let us know what you think should happen regarding this entire drama.
