The quarterback depth. This is going to be the biggest problem for Deion Sanders going into the 2025 season. See, Shedeur Sanders is leaving for the draft. Now, this guy has carried the team for the last 2 seasons, and replacing him is a big task. So what does Deion Sanders do? In a very unexpected twist, Coach Prime somehow manages to snag Julian Lewis from the USC. Now, this is a major flip. Lewis is one of the biggies when it comes down to the 2025 quarterback class. But then again, it comes with its own set of problems. Lewis is still a freshman and there is no guarantee that the 2025 season won’t end up looking like Nebraska’s run with Dylan Raiola.
So, as a safety measure, what’s the best pick for Deion Sanders? Going for someone who knows the game. Enter QB Kaidon Salter. He was committed to the Vols first but now is with Liberty. He has the game knowledge Deion needs to tackle his 2025 schedule. But hey, when it’s about Coach Prime, there is always some trouble brewing. Back on On3 Recrruits, Steve Wiltfong pointed out a contender who has a chance of taking Salter away. “He’s going to visit Syracuse this weekend. So that’s their competition,” Wiltfong mentioned. After Salter left Vols, he managed to take Liberty to a 13-1 run. They wiped the floor with their competition, only losing to Oregon during the VRBO Fiesta Bowl.
See, Salter makes sense. He is almost a 60% passer, has massive stats, and has also helped the Flames hit an 8-win season this year. But then the Orange coming in to interfere won’t be fun. Maybe Deion Sanders could throw in some NIL money?

Who knows? We have seen Prime flip Lewis away from a massive Big 10 team, so it won’t exactly be surprising if he manages to do the same with Salter. This, paired with the fact that playing for Colorado comes with its share of media fame, also looks very appetizing.
However, there is still one massive argument that a lot of people have not discussed yet. See, getting Lewis on the board was the top priority. Many had predicted that he was Sheduer’s best successor. So if Deion manages to grab Salter, would he end up putting Lewis’ future in danger?

“They already have their guy of the future.” Coach Breeze was the first one to call out the entire Salter move as a bad business idea. And it makes sense why. If Salter is brought on as QB1, then Lewis automatically gets the backup QB position.
Now, this ain’t something a 5-star QB would want. But then again, there is that Nebraska dilemma. See, Matt Rhule risked it all with a true freshman as a QB. What did that get them? There were some really good wins at the start, and then they just tanked.
If Deion Sanders fails to develop Lewis in the right way, then we could end up seeing the same happening with the Buffs. Also, Salter’s breakout season with Liberty back in 2023 is an eerie parallel to Shedeur Sanders’ performance in 2024.

Around 3ooo yards in passing, followed by a completion of 177. Pair that up with his 32 passing, only 6 interceptions, and a QBR of 176.6, and you get an elite quarterback in your hand. For now, the Buffs remain the favorites for this portal steal, but then again, will this end up costing them Julian Lewis?
