Is Deion Sanders the key to unlocking Warren Sapp's true potential at Colorado?

Warren Sapp is truly walking the talk! For a guy with a gold jacket, he’s a total steal for the Buffs. And leave it to the sharp-minded Deion Sanders to make him a permanent fixture in Colorado’s defense—a move the Washington Commanders somehow missed out on.

During his Week 1 press conference in Boulder this Saturday, Deion Sanders couldn’t help but sing the praises of his new defensive analyst. He talked about all the positive changes happening within the team, and of course, he couldn’t leave out one key player in this transformation—Warren Sapp.

Coach Prime praised Sapp’s ability to understand his players and tailor his communication to each one for maximum impact. “Coach Sapp has done more than a phenomenal job,” Deion began, setting the tone for the glowing feedback. He explained why he’s so confident in Sapp, saying, “Just the connectivity, just understanding the different types of players, just the layers they have.”

Well, Sapp isn’t just about surface-level communication; he truly gets each Buff. He knows which player is sensitive, who can handle tough love, and which guys need extra attention. “You gotta know all those different personalities, and he’s done a great job understanding them,” Deion said. It seems like, after some ups and downs, Sapp is finally getting his flowers.

The former NFL defensive tackle had a brief stint with the Washington Commanders as a guest tutor in their 2022 summer minicamp, but it didn’t live up to his NFL legacy. After that underwhelming stint, Sapp has now joined the Buffaloes roster for a modest salary, reportedly around $150k annually—a far cry from his NFL earnings. But despite the pay cut, Sapp is living by his motto and making a difference.

Warren Sapp’s call for clarity

Have an interesting take?

Warren Sapp is really stepping up as a communication guru, at least according to Coach Prime. Sapp seems to firmly believe that communication is key to building a better team.  And he also wants his players to master the art.

Last week, during a chat with Uncle Neely, the Pro Football Hall of Famer had a lot to say about the culture in Boulder. Sapp isn’t too fond of how players today rely on brief texts and DMs. He joked about the way they communicate with short phrases like “Wyd” and “OMW.” But he isn’t just ranting; he’s on a mission to close that communication gap. “They’re not accustomed to yelling and communication. That’s why I make them do it,” Sapp said. And Sapp being Sapp, added, “A quiet defense is a dumb defense.”

He also stressed on the importance of loud and clear communication, especially between coaches and players. “Each one of them has a little part to play. And now you got to pass it down the line. Now, I’m creating communication,” he explained. It seems Sapp is making some bold moves in Boulder, bringing a winning attitude to the team. Looks like the Washington Commanders’ loss is definitely the Buffaloes’ gain this time.
