How could one talk about college football without mentioning Sanders? Impossible! And with the 2025 NFL Draft approaching fast, one particular name is stealing the spotlight—Shedeur Sanders. Deion Sanders’ quarterback son is projected as a top draft pick, possibly even #1 overall. But here’s the twist—some college football analysts are spinning a new narrative around him. Could playing the waiting game actually work in his favor? Sounds crazy? Maybe not. Just look at former college players who slipped in the draft only to dominate in the NFL. Sometimes, falling low means rising higher.

Remember the time when Shedeur earned a title for himself? Not something good. Rather an embarrassing one. The Buffs QB emerged as the most sacked player in college football history. He got sacked 52 times in Coach Prime’s debut season in Boulder. Luckily, Shedeur was able to whitewash his image.

In 2024, he had an impressive season for the Buffaloes, throwing for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns, with 10 passes intercepted. This made his completion rate 74%. So, the Buffs fans might be waiting with bated breath to see Shedeur land as the top pick. Even the QB wants that for himself. However, the analyst David Pollack comes with a tough pill to swallow for Shedeur. However, it will have its own benefits.

Here comes the darkest truth of the incoming 2025 NFL Draft. On the David Pollack College Football podcast, the host started with, “If you are drafting in the top 10…” That’s when his co-host chimed in and jumped to the conclusion, “You are probably not that good.” Four teams entered the final week of the regular season tied for the worst record in the league. You name them- New England Patriots, Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, and New York Giants are all 3-13.

That’s when Pollack rekindled an old memory. “Some of these quarterbacks continue to fall a little bit later—Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson—these guys are balling and killing it. They fallen a little bit later in the drafts, but they go to better teams.” Well, that’s true. Jackson was expected to be in the top 10 selections in 2018. However, unlike his counterparts, he didn’t go in the top 10. Rather, he slipped to the end of the first round, where the Baltimore Ravens traded up to select him. Now, Jackson has two NFL MVPs in his first six seasons.

What’s your perspective on:

Could Shedeur Sanders follow in Mahomes' footsteps by thriving after a lower draft pick?

Have an interesting take?

For that matter, nine teams passed on drafting Mahomes, and finally, the Kansas City Chiefs selected him as the 10th overall. And the rest is history. On that note, Pollack predicted, “That could be one of these things for Shedeur. I think Shedeur, I think he is going to be in the top 15.” Isn’t this a big hint for Shedeur’s first stop in the NFL?

Cleveland Browns enter the Shedeur Sanders sweepstakes

Well, a lot of names have come up when it came to discussion about Shedeur’s landing spot. Ever since the Buffs QB made landfall in New York to root for Travis Hunter in the Heisman finale, the Giants rumor had flared up. Meanwhile, Dallas Cowboys GM Jerry Jones’ interest in landing Deion Sanders as their new HC also gave rise to chances of the Buffs QB going to Dallas. However, as per the latest proceedings, Cleveland Browns’ GM Andrew Berry has shown interest in landing Shedeur

The Browns now have the second overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Right after the news of Cleveland’s interest in Shedeur started to do the rounds, a Cleveland Beats writer dropped in with some more updates. As Mary Kay Cabot tweeted, “GM Andrew Berry said @seniorbowl he’s confident that Deion Sanders would be fine with his son, Shedeur, playing for the #Browns.” However, Shedeur sees himself as the top pick; who is going to convince him?

Of course, Deion Sanders. After all, the Buffs QB refuses to make any move in his career without his dad’s permission. Here, Coach Prime needs to understand that the Browns don’t fit into that “certain” team category. But will that hurt much? The father-son duo now have Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen to look up to. Plus, Shedeur’s No.1 trait is decision-making, which is going to give him a clean chit from Cleveland’s new OC Tommy Rees. Shedeur should start envisioning a path beyond the No. 1 spot. What if there is a bigger journey in store for him?
