Is Deion Sanders just another Jerry Jones, or is he carving his own path in college football?

Is Deion Sanders copying Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones’ “attention-seeking” antics? The incident at the August 9 press conference, when the Buffs HC refused to cooperate with Sean Keeler of the Denver Post, is still hot news. But what does it have to do with Jerry Jones?

Deion Sanders might have felt the sting from the Denver Post columnist, who went so far as to ban him from asking questions during press conferences. Still, this isn’t the only incident that put him and Colorado in the spotlight. Colorado hasn’t produced satisfactory results on the field, so Dan Patrick gives a bold opinion when their popularity is questioned.

In a new YouTube episode on the Dan Patrick Show on August 27, Deion Sanders and Colorado get questioned on whether they’re falling into the Dallas Cowboys category by “getting so much attention for such little results.” In response, Dan Patrick cleared the slate and said it was not Deion Sanders’ fault. He said, “Although I think Jerry Jones just wants attention, the whole CeeDee Lamb, the Dak Prescott, Mike McCarthy, they’re constantly talked about… All this is a ratings game.”

Jerry Jones had been under public scrutiny for his foolhardy promises and fake hope he gave to the world. On the other hand, when Deion Sanders joined Colorado last season, he made quite some noise and promised to win, only to fall 4-8 in his debut season in Boulder. But for the general audience, it’s easy to mistake his confidence for arrogance and false promises. Deion Sanders has always been focused on winning, and that’s what he’s been doing since his NFL days. So why is he so popular despite unsatisfactory game results?

Exploring the reason behind Deion Sanders’ popularity

Unlike most other HCs, Deion Sanders only took a year to dominate the headlines after getting an FBS coaching role. Although he isn’t of legendary Nick Saban’s caliber regarding results, he became the most famous person to ever coach in college football. A big part of his popularity came through his NFL days when he was one of the greatest CBs ever.

Still, his athletic prowess isn’t all. Another reason Deion Sanders is a popular name is because he’s been part of mainstream popular culture for over three decades. It’s no wonder why people, irrespective of fans and critics, follow him with interest to see what he’s up to. He was in popular commercials for Nike, Pepsi, and Pizza Hut, among other brands. People saw him featured in rap videos, watched him when he hosted a Miss USA pageant, and found entertainment in his first reality show in 2008. Now that he’s back to coaching in the sport where he initially found fame, it’s not surprising why people, irrespective of fans and critics, follow him with interest to see what he’s up to.
