Can USC handle Utah State without their star linebacker Mason Cobb? What's your take?

Along with the NCAA, many football programs have also made changes for the fresh 2024 season. The No. 23 USC Trojans have a new defensive coordinator in D’Anton Lynn this year. All the eyes are on him after the Trojans won their season opener against the No. 13 LSU at Vegas.

After an incredible performance by all the players, USC is all set for the second week. They are going to face Utah State Aggies this coming Sunday. However, as the team is heading into their Week 2 clash, a key concern has emerged, and fans are wondering if linebacker Mason Cobb will be available for the second game as he was missing from today’s practice.

Only two days are left for the classic showdown. Ryan Karje, a USC beat writer for the Los Angeles Times, questioned the new defensive coordinator “about linebacker Mason Cobb’s presence at practice today.” He has also questioned, “Whether his status is in doubt for the next game.” However, Lynn declined to answer. However, head coach Lincoln Riley is going to have a conversation with the Los Angeles Times tomorrow morning.

This developing situation has now created a buzz among the media houses and USC fans. The linebacker’s availability plays a critical role in the Trojan’s defense. Fans have to be patient because we can only get an update on the situation tomorrow morning.

D’Anton Lynn, the new DC, steals the show in his debut

After the mid-season dismissal of Alex Grinch on November 5, Trojans fans were also curious to know who would fit in the big shoes for the coming season. On 1st December, it was official that the former UCLA defensive coordinator, D’Anton Lynn, would be his replacement. Lynn left UCLA before they were invited to the LA Bowl. In college football, newcomers and new coaches are often questioned on their abilities, and there is a lot of pressure on newbies to put their best forward and stand out. Lynn made a strong impression in his debut and showed why he is the best once again; he guided USC to a 27-20 win over the LSU Tigers.

USC’s defense showed significant improvement. They set the tone by forcing a turnover, which helped the team for the rest of the game. LSC tried to score, but the Trojan’s defense stood strong and overpowered them, limiting a powerful offensive team to just 20 points. The game was tied in the fourth quarter. Trojan’s defense stepped in again and restricted LSU to making a field goal. Miller Moss made a crucial final drive that ended in a touchdown run by Woody Marks, which helped the team win.
