Home/College Football

The UNC football team has been on the hunt for a new head coach for a while now. Every other day we have been hearing potential names who could take this vacant position. However, there are a couple of options for the ones who are wondering why there isn’t anyone like Bill Belichick on that list. A, North Carolina will not hire an older coach. B, they’re up for someone who has experience coaching at college football ranks. So here comes the man you must have been hearing for a while now for this post, Dan Mullen.

Mullen has had his fair share of ups and downs during his coaching career. He did some great stuff at Mississippi State, followed by two successful seasons at the Florida Gators but the fairytale ended after two consecutive pathetic seasons with the Gators. As a result, he got fired by the Gators and joined the broadcasting booth.

Meanwhile, during a conversation with college GameDay sensation Pat McAfee, Mullen made it clear about his next move. “Are you looking to get back in the country? By the way, I can make a call.” Mullen made that clear by saying, “Are you trying to get me out of TV? I love this TV, and I like it here on TV. We’re talking, having a good time, having fun.”

However, that wasn’t it, as Dan Mullen further talks about how it is to be a coach when you’re dealing with everything that goes on a typical college football signing day.

“You know, when you’re coach, it’s signing day today. I mean, it is the most stressful day, right? Signing day is like you’d have champagne in the office popping, like your kid signs and you’re like, popping champagne. I’ve been on the phone, you know, last night, whatever. Signing day keeps changing and stays. But there are; I don’t know if I can find a signing day where I wasn’t on the phone at three o’clock in the morning the night before, right? You are on the phone the entire night.”

As a 52-year-old, Mullen is still young enough to restart his coaching career. With a past record of 10 winning seasons in 13 years as an SEC coach, his portfolio is quite strong, which can give him yet another shot at being a head coach. If he ever decides to start afresh, UNC could be the best option. Why? UNC is the only power-four job currently open, and it’s not at all bad. They are sitting in the third position in the ACC conference. So what happens if he takes this job?

What’s your perspective on:

Does Dan Mullen have what it takes to revive UNC, or is he better off on TV?

What if Dan Mullen becomes UNC’s new head coach?

Alright, Tar Heels, here’s the tea. Basically, UNC’s job isn’t exactly the Big Ten or SEC that most of the coaches drool over. Meanwhile, hiring this cycle? No slam-dunk names. So, do they bet on B-listers? Enter Dan Mullen, who can be a fit for this. Mullen is the guy who dragged Mississippi State to 8 bowl games in 9 years, and you know what? That’s a flex only a few can claim.

Then, in Florida, he lit up three straight New Year’s bowls before he got overwhelmed by the recruiting drama and NIL chaos. As of now, this man is killing it on TV, but if you listen to him talking about coaching, it looks like he’s got FOMO. What do you say, Mullen still has the juice left to deal with new-age college football chaos? As per his current, it seems the man is comfortable behind the flashy cameras, sipping coffee while breaking down Xs and Os.
