Is Dan Lanning's recruiting pitch after the Ohio State win a game-changer for Oregon's future?

“I’m filled with great excitement. I’m really proud of our guys, but I’m also excited to you know, figure out what we can go attack and improve,” said head coach Dan Lanning after winning the game. On what seemed impossible at first, Oregon created history after defeating Ohio State 32-31. With that, Oregon’s capabilities to beat an elite team are proven in front of the college football world. Coming out such a big treat, head coach Dan Lanning is on cloud nine. In his post-game appearance, he tried persuading top prospects to flip their commitment to Oregon.

One of the short clips from his post-game video is shared by Fox College Football from their ‘X’ handle. “If you see any good players, tell them to come here.” planning said in the clip referring to flip the 5-star OSU commit Na’eem Offord. Fox Studio continued their post by writing, “@Oregonfootball head Coach Dan Lanning is in full recruiting mode after the win vs Ohio State.” They wrote the caption and added a laughing emoji.

Following a victory against Ohio State, Dan Lanning is striking while the iron is hot. To that it will be good news for Lanning because around 100 top prospects came to watch the game live.

On3 recruit Josh Newberg recently shared in the latest episode of On3 Recruits, “The recruits come to a game like this, and they imagine themselves in this situation, but Na’eem Offord, he’s committed Ohio State. I wonder which the sideline he’s imagining himself on after a game like this, obviously, Morgan has a foot in the door. I wouldn’t say that he was on whipwatch heading into this, but an experience like this, it makes a difference.” Newberg highlighted the fact that there are chances to afford to flip his commitment to Dane Lanning’s team after watching today’s game against Ohio State.

Dan Lanning’s team won a tight game against Ohio State

The Autzen Stadium witnessed one of the most thrilling games of the 2024 college football season. The Ducks started the game by winning the toss, but sooner Ohio took the pigskin possession, with Will Howard reaching the end zone on a 1-yard line run. However, late in the first quarter, Jordan James scored a 3-yard run.

The first quarter ended with Ohio State 7 and Oregon 6 on the scoreboard. Coming into the second quarter, Quinshon Judkins scored on a 1-yard run, which moved the score to Ohio State 14 and Oregon 6. The Ducks capped their lead, with Dillon Gabriel throwing a 10-yard TD pass to Ewan Stewart.

The next few minutes turned out to be dramatic for the Ducks as Atticus Sappington scored a 27-yard field goal with 10:09 remaining in the first half, leading the way with Oregon 15, and Ohio 14 before halftime. However, soon after that, Will Howard responded with a 15-yard pass to Emeka Egbuka and it was a touchdown! After which Dillon Gabriel connected with Tez Johnson for a 48-yard score on the third-and-9, resulting in the region 22 and Ohio State 21 scoring by 1:17 left in the first half.

This was one of those games that stayed intriguing from the start to the end. Right in the first few minutes of the second half, Ohio took the lead with Will Howard scoring a 6-yard touchdown. The game was getting intense as it was late in the third quarter and Ohio State was still leading the way.

However, coming to the fourth quarter, Oregon took the lead with Dillon Gabriel scoring a 27-yard touchdown on third-and-2, which put them up with 29 scores. But Ohio State was not in the mood of losing, as they answered with a 0-yard field goal. But soon after that, Oregon’s Atticus Sappington hit a 19-yard field goal and capped an 11-play, 74-yard drive for Oregon, which ultimately tied the game with Oregon 32 and Ohio State 31, the final score of the game. Indeed, it was a memorable day for Dan Lanning and his boys.
