Indiana Hoosiers HC Curt Cignetti has been known for his word bombs. Looks like he has some superpowers too when it comes to forecasting as well. After all, even before stepping into the HC role, Cignetti had predicted how the 2024 season would be a big hit for the Hoosiers. Even though he had been able to deliver what he had promised, his boys still failed to woo the college football playoff committee and B1G. Sadly, James Franklin’s Penn State Nittany Lions earned a favor for the B1G championship game. And obviously, it did not sit well with Cignetti, who then took a subtle dig at the committee.

Well, college football playoff rankings often are enough to leave coaches and players upset. Right from the first rankings, back in the first week of November, Cignetti’s Hoosiers have gotten snubbed. As per the first list, Penn State was at No.6 and Indiana at No.8. That’s when analyst Ari Wasserman thought of addressing the issue, as he lost his calm blaming it on the committee. “Penn State being ahead of Indiana is absolute bullsh- -,” stated the analyst. A month later, the situation is still the same, rather worse for Cignetti and Co.

As championship week begins, Indiana is still hoping to earn the committee’s trust, while the HC thought of coming up with a straightforward reply on losing out on the chance of a first-round home game. Cignetti started with, “We’re not playing in that game, okay. We’ have been better off just flipping a coin between the two second place teams to see who played in that game, but it didn’t work out that way.”

Right now, the Nittany Lions enjoy the No.3 spot while the Hoosiers have been pushed further to No. 9. But that man is there to ward away all the bad juju for Indiana. After all, Cignetti now oozes confidence. So he does not feel bad about not getting the ticket to the championship game. Instead, he counts on his boys’ skills to do all the talking.

“I guess my prediction did not come true. Okay, but we’re going to play in the college football playoff, and you know our destiny will be created by our actions and what we do every single day leading up to there in terms of our preparation and our performance between the white lines,” Cignetti sounded all pumped up. Thanks to his winning mentality, he’s now the benchmark for Big Ten coaches.

Did the playoff committee make a mistake snubbing Cignetti's Hoosiers for the championship game?

Curt Cignetti proves his worth yet again

Remember the time when Cignetti predicted that the Hoosiers would be having a 10-win season even before taking the HC seat? Well, he has one-upped himself. And there are no two ways about it that it has only been possible for the ‘Google me’ man. The debut HC led Indiana to an eight-win improvement this season, gifting them 11 wins. Do you know that the last record for wins was nine, which the Hoosiers got in 1967 and 1945?

So that calls for some big titles. On Tuesday, December 3, Indiana HC was named the Big Ten Coach of the Year. Cignetti was the third coach to win this honor in the Hoosiers’ history and joined Tom Allen, the 2020 winner, and Bill Mallory in 1986. However, this is not something new for Cignetti.

After all, he has been able to cast his magic spell wherever he made a stop. So this marked the Indiana HC’s fourth conference Coach of the Year award. Last year, he won the Sun Belt Coach of the Year with James Madison. Before that, he bagged the Colonial Athletic Association Coach of the Year with Elon in 2017 and also became the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Coach of the Year with Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2012. If Curt Cignetti, with his award-studded resume, isn’t running the show for Indiana, who else could be?
