Did Indiana Hoosiers make a blunder by stepping back from recruiting 5-star QB Julian Lewis?

10-0! Indiana Hoosiers and head coach Curt Cignetti must be on cloud nine. Do you remember Cignetti’s media interaction before he joined the Hoosiers? He made it clear he was here to win. While they are now preparing for the playoffs, their recruiting process for the new season is gaining all the attention. Cignetti and staff wanted Julian Lewis in their squad. However, they announced, “Indiana will no longer recruit 5-star QB in 2025, Julian Lewis.” Hold on! Who does not want a five-start recruit in their team? But Indiana was not the only one who was running behind him. Their biggest competition was the Colorado Buffs. However, it looks like Hoosiers have realized their mistake and now they are trying to rectify it.

On3 Recruits Youtube Channel discussed if Julian Lewis is a legit target? Steve Wiltfong, Vice President of Recruiting and Transfer Portal for On3, shared that the Hoosiers are the favorites to land Byron Baldwin. Before that, let’s get to know Baldwin’s relationship with the Buffs.

“Defensive back Byron Baldwin that’s been a back-and-forth recruitment with Colorado. He was at one point committed to the Hoosiers and got an offer from Colorado this fall, he went to the Baylor game. Colorado beats Baylor on a Hail Mary, and then they have like a concert in the locker room. afterwards, he has the opportunity to potentially be coached by Deion Sanders and Company; it is very enticing. He decommits from Indiana-heavy trend to Colorado, but coach Ola Adams and Company don’t waiver they stay in there and recruit.”

Julian “Juju” Lewis is making headlines as one of the top quarterbacks in the 2025 recruiting class. And now that Indiana has taken a step back, the fierce competition between USC and Colorado has raised eyebrows. But Curt made sure if he is leaving Juju, he has another strong player in his team.

Baldwin has impressed everyone on the school level with his impressive performances. But now it is time for him to make waves in college football. But where is he landing? Steve discussed his recruiting journey and mentioned, “Byron Baldwin’s Baltimore St. Frances team plays a game against Greenwood Center Grove, which is a Southside Indianapolis suburb, the week of the Nebraska game so by Baldwin is now in the Indianapolis area, the Hoosiers send some coaches to his game. They win big against the Indiana Powerhouse. Then he goes to the Indiana-Nebraska game and has a great time.”
