Can Curt Cignetti's Indiana team overcome the odds without their star player against the Huskies?

This right here is the longest streak of 40+ points in 6 back-to-back wins Indiana has ever experienced, and the man behind it is Curt Cignetti. After blowing out arguably one of the best defensive lines in the country (Huskers), Curt Cignetti has taken his team on a 7-win streak, and it feels like this team will easily crack the playoffs. Standing in the top spot on the Big 10 list, Curt Cignetti and Co. should have an easy closure. Unless something that manages to derail the entire progress.

And what could be that “something”? Well, back on ESPN’s The Kickoff, Heather Dinich has an explanation. “The committee, first of all, evaluates injuries to key players. They’ll know Kurtis Rourke is out for the game against Washington,” Heather mentioned. This is the first problem. Against the Huskers, Kurtis Rourke sustained a nail bed injury. Typically, it takes a player at least 8 to 10 days to recover from this. The Hoosiers do not have that much time. The Hoosiers vs Huskies game is just a few hours from now and with Rourke missing out, it could temporarily hinder Cignetti’s power run.

Now, that ain’t the only problem. “Down the stretch, can they beat Ohio State?” Heather questions. This will be another major challenge for Cignetti and Co. Ryan Day and his dream squad at the Buckeyes have also been on a solid run. While the 32-31 loss to Oregon was a bit of a disappointment, every Buckeyes fan knows that Day has what it takes to help the team bounce back.

Today, the Buckeyes will be facing off against the Huskers. Cignetti already proved his worth when he lifted that crown after moping the floor with Matt Rhule and Co. The 56-7 win over the No.6 top-ranked defense in the entire nation ain’t no small feat.

The thing is. If Day also manages to get the same done, then the Buckeyes vs Hoosiers clash would be something magical. Regardless of what happens, that showdown still has a lot of time. For now, we gotta talk about the Huskies.

Curt Cignetti’s first challenge

The year has not been kind to the Huskies. The team is barely a shadow of its former self and is standing on a 4-3 run. While they did show immense talent during their revenge game against Michigan and secured a massive 27-17 win over the former national champs, the 40-16 loss to Iowa was a bad blow to Jedd Fisch and Co.

Have an interesting take?

Washington currently stands in the number 3 spot in terms of pass-efficiency defense. We have already seen Cignetti’s offensive line dismantle one of the top-ranked defenses, so can they do the same? Well, the pressure is gonna fall on the quarterback.

Going into this showdown, Tayven Jackson will be starting for the Hoosiers. He has already shown quite the promise. When Rourke was pulled out of the turf because of his injury, Jackson stepped in. He was explosive from the start. Managed to snag 2 touchdowns along with 7 out of 8 pass completions. If Cignetti manages to create the perfect rhythm between Jackson and the WRs, then this will be an easy win for Indiana. But we would love to hear from you; Do you think Indiana can trample through this game or will it end up becoming a stain on their perfect record?
