Generational talent or overhyped? Where do you stand on Travis Hunter's college football prowess?

Woah! Colorado Buffaloes two-way star Travis Hunter is already fired up like a rocket, ready for launch. The Buff’s head coach, Deion Sanders, counts on his dual threat to flip the 4-8 narrative. And hopes are high for a full-throttle recovery. Still having doubts? On August 13, the DNVR Sports podcast hosts Jake Schwanitz and Ryan Koenigsberg placed a big bet on Hunter by landing him the “legitimately generational” tag. The podcast hosts have their reasons to do so. Apart from the hosts, the two-way star got a clean chit from Buffs’ former offensive coordinator Mike Sanford. But it’s not all smooth sailing for Hunter, as he has to be mindful of his discipline.

All eyes are on Hunter for the 2024 season. The Buffs ‘ dual threat does everything from understanding and matching offensive patterns to make-up speed to catch up. However, his talents often go unnoticed in front of the craze surrounding the Buffs QB Shedeur Sanders. This is something that the podcast comes up with, “That you know we do talk about Travis a lot but sometimes just his otherworldly like playmaking ability and just what he can do as a football player kind of just gets slipped under the rug.

However, like every play, Hunter has been phenomenal in the CU Buffs preseason fall camp on Saturday, August 10. “He just goes out there dominates both sides of the ball on Saturday, runs after the catch uh two touchdowns back to back and then the interception that was just unbelievable again,” Jake pointed out.

This takes them back to their first review about the two-way star when he stepped into college football. The hosts had a valid reason to land a hefty tag for Hunter. It was the same Hunter who missed a handful of games after a lacerated liver injury and even then notched 1,044 snaps. “It goes back to what we’ve said about Travis since the first day we ever talked about him his ability to track and attack the football is otherworldly… it’s legitimately generational the way that he goes up and gets the football,” claimed RK. Salford, too, walked on the same path to celebrate Hunter as a player.

Salford’s optimistic view of Hunter fell flat with Spielman’s take

While the Buffs will soon undergo a heartbreak now that Hunter will sail the NFL ship, there is something to be proud of. The NFL scouts are still in a dilemma about the two-way star’s dominant position. Here’s when Colorado’s interim HC and former OC pitched in. On the July 10 episode of the DNVR Sports podcast, Salford placed his opinion on Hunter, “I think as an NFL player I think he’s still going to be an X-factor…I think he has so much ability as a dynamic playmaker.”

However, even Hunter has his share of imperfections. For his playmaking qualities and the vigor with which he heads on the gridiron, the dual threat has been earlier tagged as “little Deion.” Here, analyst Rick Spielman came up with a reality check: “He is a little bit I don’t want to call him Gunslinger he plays with some savvy but so undisciplined.”

However, there’s nothing to worry about, Buffs fans; your favorite Hunter is protected. This is thanks to Deion, who has created a no-contact rule for the two-way phenom. He has also handed it to his players not to go near Hunter, ensuring that he does not suffer the same fate as Colorado tight end Louis Passarello, who took medical retirement.
