Under Deion Sanders, Colorado’s 2025 dynasty is shaping up to be a powerhouse. With Shedeur Sanders‘ time at the helm done, Deion’s not just filling his son’s shoes—he’s doubling up with TWO star quarterbacks. First up is Julian Lewis, the 17-year-old QB prodigy from Carrollton High. This five-star blue-chip recruit got the royal treatment, making him the perfect heir to Shedeur’s throne. But Deion knows those shoes are big, so he’s bringing in a ‘mentor.’ The transfer QB, aka the QB sensei, has big plans for 2025, especially for JuJu, and he’s all in!

On December 18, Kaidon Salter, the transfer QB, posted on Instagram to announce his move from the Liberty Flames to the Colorado Buffs. As of now, the QB is anticipated to face Julian Lewis for the starting position with the Buffs this season. Salter and his parents made an appearance on WFAA on Friday to talk about his relocation to Boulder, as per the X post of Buffs’ reporter Scott Procter. The post also shared his thoughts on Lewis, one of the 2025 class’s highly regarded QBs. And Salter’s emotion was so genuine.

No promises, all competition, and I’m willing to come in and compete. You know Juju (Lewis), he is a younger guy of course, so they wanted somebody in the room that can mentor him and help him come into college feel comfortable. They felt I was the guy that could do that. I also feel I’m the guy that can do that,” said Kaidon Salter. Salter’s stepping up to be the perfect bridge quarterback for JuJu Lewis—no QB drama here! And it seems like these two might have even crossed paths before.

Well, on the same show, Salter went on to describe the relationship with Lewis, saying, “I met Juju at the Elite 11, when I was an Elite 11 counselor. So, I’ve met Juju before and just recently met him again when I went out there for the Bowl game. He’s a very cool dude, and he’s a playmaker. One of the best QBs in his class.

The Buffs’ transfer QB has made his intentions clear: he’s all in on Deion’s 2025 vision. He’s talked about how both quarterbacks are there to ‘help’ and ‘build’ each other. As Salter put it, “It’s all love over there, and it’ll be a great competition between us.” Look at their respective stats; they are truly incredible. Lewis led his Trojans team to a resounding 44-22 victory in a memorable game against Rome High School, throwing for 352 yards and 5 TDs in addition to one rushing TD. And Salter helped his team defeat Campbell 41-24 by completing 16 of 23 throws for 242 yards and two TDs.

Shedeur Sanders might be the first quarterback off the board in the NFL Draft this April. With him likely heading to the pros, his dad, Coach Prime, has two promising candidates to take his place. Both quarterbacks joined Colorado, ready to compete this 2025 season. The Buffs had a solid 9-4 season last year, so managing the quarterback competition will be a top priority for Coach Prime this year. Now, who can fit Shedeur’s shoes—Lewis or Salter?

Even though Lewis is a ‘freshman’ he is here to compete. In November, when Lewis announced his commitment to CU, he hoped to “come in and compete and start as a freshman.” He then remarked, “I wouldn’t have much fun sitting on the bench.” However, the Buffs had other ideas. Their ex-OC Pat Shurmur noted, “He’s [JuJu] got a bright future, and we’ll see how quickly that happens. But at some point here, I think we need to add another quarterback.” Well, to be honest, it’s a little tricky to place all your hopes on a rookie.

Remember, we’re talking about who can best fill Shedeur Sanders’ shoes. JuJu Lewis joined the Buffs on November 21st. Two weeks later, Salter, with just one year of eligibility left, signed on but decided to redshirt this season. Salter’s a dual-threat guy who led Liberty to a 21-4 record the past two years.

Lewis, on the other hand, is more of a pocket passer. ESPN ranks him as the country’s second-best at that. He threw for almost 3,800 yards this year and led his team to a 14-1 record. Now, the question is: Will Lewis be patient and wait his turn, especially if Salter ends up starting next season?
