Is Colton Hood the new defensive star Colorado needs to keep their playoff dreams alive?

Colorado made a statement in their last game against Arizona! Except for the part where valuable player Travis Hunter left the game for precautionary measures, things rolled out well for Deion Sanders and the Buffs. They proved that they’re more than just a couple of good players in their dominant 34-7 win in week 8. And yes, a new hero emerged among the Buffs.

Colorado performed well in every aspect – offense, defense, and special teams. But in that dominant game, CB Colton Hood became a force to keep an eye on. WR LaJohntay Wester posted a highlight of the CB’s impressive tackle on his Instagram story on October 20. In the caption, he wrote, “Yn Timing 🥷🏽💯” as Hood put a stop to what could have been a score-changing run.

That’s not the only part where Colton Hood earned the spotlight in Saturday’s game. He scored his second interception for the second straight game late in the fourth quarter when the Buffs were leading 31-7. The freshman CB brought the Buffs defense to the spotlight when he intercepted a pass with a 46-yard return. He recorded three tackles and an interception in their last win.

LaJohntay Wester also made a season-high record with eight receptions for 127 yards. The whole game was a show of development by Colorado considering that their star player Travis Hunter wasn’t available for the second half of the game. But it’s crucial that Hunter rests those muscles after his injury. But he did put up a good show while he was there.

Travis Hunter knows he has to be there for his team no matter how he’s feeling. It’s crucial Colorado win this game if they want to dwell on their playoff hopes. After the game, Deion Sanders said of Hunter’s status, “Little sore, little banged up. Travis wanted to play… He went out there and showed face and tried his best to do what he’s capable of doing.” Still, the resilient fighter recorded two receptions for 17 yards in the first half.

Two passing touchdowns, two rushing touchdowns, and two field goals. How about that? Colorado delivered despite coming in as a 2.5-point underdog. It was Colton Hood who led the defense that went on to pressure Arizona QB Noah Fifita and the Wildcats with seven sacks, seven TFLs, one interception, and two fumble recoveries. Things are looking good for the Buffs moving on. No ranked opponents on their schedule right now. Their next game is up against Big 12 opponent Cincinnati who are also 5-2 into the season. Can they keep up the momentum?
