Can the CU Buffs survive without Shilo Sanders, Chidozie Nwankwo, and Isaiah Hardge against Colorado State?

And it gets worse for Deion Sanders. Marked as the year of redemption, the 2024 season is turning out to be the year of nightmares for Coach Prime and his boys. The NDSU season opener exposed the fatal flaws in the O-line and defense once again.

If all of that wasn’t enough, the second game against the Huskers added fuel to the fire. Shedeur Sanders was sacked 5 times because of the offensive line’s inability to keep him safe. The same game also resulted in Deion losing one of his core players on the defense. Shilo Sanders sustained a forearm injury while trying to stop RB Dante Dowdell’s run.

And now, Brian Howell took to X on September 15th to let us know that the bad omens aren’t over. “Colorado’s DL Chidozie Nwankwo and CB Isaiah Hardge both out tonight vs. Colorado State,” Howell mentioned in his post. Nwankwo is currently suffering a shoulder injury because of the rough Huskers game. On the other hand, Isaiah Hardge and his injury are still not disclosed. Nwankwo showed great promise during the first 2 games for the Buffs. Taurean Carter II and Amari McNeill will be taking Nwankwo’s place during the Rams game. Also, this ain’t all. RB Dallan Hayden will also not be appearing because of an undisclosed injury.

On the O-line, Jordan Seaton and LaVonta Bentley were the only ones capable of playing on Shedeur or Travis Hunter’s level. However, the O-line is much weaker now because Bentley is going into the Rams game with a foot injury. Now, if we do a quick recap; Deion Sanders has lost his veteran safety (Shilo), the O-line was already in disarray and the injuries will make this worse and the defense would be even more tragic. It ain’t looking good for Coach Prime and his boys, folks. However, there still could be a way out of this.

How can Deion Sanders turn this around?

The first major thing Coach Prime has to focus on is ensuring Shedeur doesn’t lose his cool. We all saw how Shedeur left the field while 2 minutes were still there on the clock during the Huskers game. This kind of attitude problem breaks the chemistry between the boys. Matt McChesney had raised a point way back on September 3rd. “When do you think the rest of the offense catches up and matches those?” McChesney had noted. The interior 3 linemen have to get their heads in the game and focus on protecting the QB.

Have an interesting take?

The main thing is, if Shedeur is too focused on doing everything, then he won’t be able to make any plays. We saw how confused and out of place he was during the Huskers game and that was solely because the O-line failed to do their job properly. Well, Hunter and Jimmy Horn Jr. would be there to get things done. However, the CU staff cannot make any more poor decisions.
