Is LaJohntay Wester the next big leader in college football, or just another fleeting star?

Coming to Colorado was one of the best things that happened to LaJohntay Wester. The senior WR already had a huge fanbase from his four seasons at Florida Atlantic. He recorded an impressive 108 catches for 1,168 yards last season before making a move to Boulder with his younger brother Jaylen Wester. And now, he has a higher purpose than just playing his best on the football field. 

LaJohntay Wester and the CU Buffs came off a strong 34-7 victory in Week 8 against Arizona. After a stellar play, he emerged as a fan favorite. Sharing a reel by Deion Sanders Jr. on his Instagram story on October 24, he captioned, “God I Thank You For Letting me be an example and motivation to the younger generation 🙏🏽💯”

The video was originally uploaded by welloffforever and captured Wester’s glorious moment as he signed a football and a cap for two young boys on the side. As an idol for the young fans, Wester has a huge responsibility on his shoulders. And as far as his playing skills go, he has proved that he’s an athlete in the making.

His fame shot up after he skillfully caught the 43-yard Hail Mary throw from Shedeur Sanders in their 38-31 OT win against Baylor in Week 4. In seven games, he’s recorded 34 receptions for 445 yards and seven touchdowns. However, it’s not just his playing skills that stole the spotlight. And this isn’t the only sweet moment where Deion Sanders Jr. shone the spotlight on LaJohntay Wester. 

LaJohntay Wester is a leader in the making

When you’re the older one, you’re usually the motivator. LaJohntay Wester’s relationship with his younger brother Jaylen Wester is proof that the 22-year-old is someone to count on. A couple of days back, Deion Sanders Jr. posted a sweet video of the Wester brothers locked in a prayer on the field before the Arizona kickoff. As they finished their prayers, LaJohntay Wester told his brother, “Take advantage of the opportunity. Have fun. I love you.”

A pregame message like that from your loved one could work wonders. However, the junior undergrad transfer didn’t see action. But LaJohntay Wester made a statement with his season-high record of eight catches for 127 yards. He also made sure the defensive players got the credit they deserved for putting up such a brilliant performance against the Wildcats. Undoubtedly, he’s going to continue being a force in Colorado as fans await their upcoming game against Cincinnati with high anticipation.
