Can Sherrone Moore step up and protect Michigan's legacy, or is Harbaugh's dependency too much to handle?

With the 2024 season approaching, the Michigan Wolverines are howling hard to maintain their undefeatable status in the game. The Wolverines were the only team to finish the last season with the program’s first 15-0, registering their 1st National Championship win under former legendary HC, Jim Harbaugh, putting immense pressure on HC Sherrone Moore to keep maintaining the legacy for the upcoming fall.

Every ending is a new beginning, but now it’s time for Sherrone Moore to get his QB final for the coming season. With Paul Finebaum’s constant criticism of the team’s alignment, On August 13th Finebaum made it clear on his show that Sherrone Moore is still following Jim’s footsteps from last season by saying “Too high. They are living off of last year,”  Paul feels Moore still depends on Jim Harbaugh for his offensive coordination. Well, Jim’s departure was always going to be a big blow for the Michigan Wolverines, but QB J.J. McCarthy’s exit added fuel to it, leaving the QB’s position vacant. A team without a QB is just like a band without a singer.

However, Michigan lost the finest quarterback, but there is still some hope left for the Wolverines. Currently, Alex Orji, junior QB for the Wolverines is everyone’s favorite. On August 15, Late Kick Live Ep 540, host Josh Pate responded to a viewer question about Michigan’s chances of repeating this season if they get the QB situation correct and who will be in the position? To this, Josh responded, “Wolverines went against Ohio State and Bama, but they executed it well and won it. So if they get a quarterback figured out this year, they will win a total of 8 and a half, and go over 8 and 2, they may get 10, or they may lose to Ohio State”. Josh feels Alex Orji has good potential for a QB looking at his past performances. He also added Michigan and Washington are actually tied for 125th; the two teams played for a national title last year. “It seems new faces that were good enough to get scholarships to Michigan are going to be the ones who have to play for Michigan now’’ Well, the defense won’t be as good as last year’s version, but it won’t be that far off. All it takes: A good QB for a win.

The Michigan Wolverines are entering a new era under their new HC Sherrone Moore. It seems the quarterback battle has worked its way down to a four-man race between Alex Orji, Jack Tuttle, Jadyn Davis, and Davis Warren. While a lot of people are rooting for Alex Orji, Moore recently mentioned in a news conference about his final picks of the season, “They’ve all been really good,” “They’ve had their days that one guy has been good, one guy has been really good, one guy has been better”. So, there is no frontrunner as of now.

As the decision is pending, the candidates are still under consideration. According to the reports, Warren Davis and Alex Orji have played the most snaps during fall camp, with Jack Tuttle sidelined due to an estimated injury. Sherrone Moore has expressed his confidence in the options that he has at this time. Despite none of them having an extensive college football experience, he is still optimistic about their gameplay. Well, with all the speculations around, it will be a historic moment if the Michigan Wolverines continue their legacy!
