Ever since the Michigan Wolverines got in wide receiver Donaven McCulley, thanks to the transfer portal, they haven’t been able to replicate this success by landing more playmakers. For instance, the team contemplated names like Skyler Bell, David Pantelis, and Troy Stellato, but couldn’t seal the deal. Now throw a fourth name in the mix! Kaedin Robinson, the wide receiver from Appalachian State, could have been the perfect partner for Bryce Underwood.
Instead of donning the maize and blue, Robinson decided to take his talents to UCLA. Yep, you guessed it—the Wolverines were left empty-handed. Robinson, who put up 840 yards and two TDs last season, was on Michigan’s radar, but according to EJ Holland from On3, they couldn’t even get him to pull up on campus.
Meanwhile, UCLA did their thing, locking Robinson down and reuniting him with his former Appalachian State QB, Joey Aguilar. The two were already cooking together as Mountaineers (two seasons), and now they’ll bring that same vibe to the Bruins, where Aguilar will probably take the reins as QB1 next season.

Apart from UCLA and Michigan, Robinson had received offers from USC, Auburn, West Virginia, Wake Forest, Cal, and Florida State.
UCLA’s flexing in the transfer portal right now. Robinson is their fifth offensive pickup, and they have stacked their squad with guys like J. Michael Sturdivant and Kyle Ford. They’re clearly not messing around, and it’s showing. Meanwhile, Michigan? They’re still struggling to figure out how to make moves in the portal, and it’s looking like they fumbled a golden opportunity.

For Sherrone Moore and the Wolverines, this is not a good signal. Bryce Underwood is a generational talent, but if Michigan can’t surround him with some serious playmakers, it’s gonna be tough to compete with programs that are absolutely thriving in the portal. Time’s ticking, and Michigan better step it up before they fall behind in this arms race.
Michigan Wolverines: Sherrone Moore’s portal moves are not cutting it…
Here’s the thing with Michigan: If you ask fans how they are doing in the transfer portal, you’ll get such different answers. Answers ranging from very positive to extremely negative.
Michigan fans had high hopes for Sherrone Moore to lock down some elite talent to build the perfect offense for Bryce Underwood, their future QB1. But instead of making major waves in the portal, Moore’s latest move feels like a lukewarm splash. The Wolverines grabbed WR Anthony Simpson, who has had stops at UMass and Arizona. This brings some optimism as the athlete comes with experience. He has spent four years in college.
He started out at Arizona before transferring to UMass. During his first year with UMass, Simpson recorded 57 receptions for 792 yards and three touchdowns. That’s exactly what he needed as his time with the Wildcats was relatively quiet. Though he was expected to have an exciting year this past season, it lasted just two games. He recorded three receptions for 16 yards in those games.
He was injured in week 2 of the 2024 season. Later, it was announced that he was no longer a part of UMass. Though the head coach didn’t elaborate on the reasons, Simpson entered the transfer portal. So it will be interesting to see how he does at Michigan.

Here is what the Michigan Wolverines need: wide receiver, offensive line, and cornerback. Unfortunately, some of the incoming transfers are not names that would excite fans. That being said, are the Wolverines doing badly in the transfer portal? Well, not really!
According to On3 transfer portal team rankings, Michigan football is the No. 5 team overall. They are also the best in the Big Ten Conference. So while Sherrone Moore is making some important moves, it looks like there is so much more to be done. He needs to set up Bryce Underwood for success.
