Can Travis Hunter hold his own against Mahomes, or is he in over his head?

Now if someone told you that Travis Hunter is gonna hit the field against Patrick Mahomes, you would probably lose your mind. However, let’s dial things down. Buffs 2-way star and Deion Sanders ace were already making big moves before CFB25 launched. Back during the launch party for the game, Hunter was seen playing against some fans, gripping a controller in his hand. Hunter was also rated a solid 95 on the game, while this did lead to Deion calling EA out, stating that Hunter deserved a much higher rating because of his skill as a WR and a cornerback. The game still had Hunter as the highest-rated wide receiver in the game.

However, today on August 15th, we found Hunter on his YouTube channel livestreaming NFL Madden to his audience. Hunter switched from CFB25, but who could’ve thought that he would be going against the Chiefs? While Travis decided to stick with Houston, his friend went with the Patrick Mahomes’ Chiefs. During the 1hr stream, viewers observed Hunter struggling, to be honest. While the live comments supported the 2-way star with praise and “Yo trav you the best bro”, the game concluded with the Chiefs grabbing the win at 53-22. Rough match, but fear not cause Hunter is definitely all set for the real NFL scene. This year the Buffs have seen some sort of revival. With the 2023 season ending on a 4-8 run and Shedeur Sanders becoming the most sacked QB, almost anyone in the college football scene had given up on Buffs.

Fear not, cause Deion has brought back life into the program. With 6 new linemen and Patt Shurmur on the team, Buffs fans can look forward to a much stronger defense and offense. Not only that, when we talk about Hunter himself, it will be criminal if we don’t mention how much effort the kid has put in this year. Uncle Neely mentioned on the Pregame Show that Hunter had put on considerable weight. The kid was now much faster and stronger on the field. Even NFL analyst Daniel Jeremiah mentioned in his scouting report, “He has every tool needed to develop into a No. 1 wideout.” He can get in and out of breaks without wasting any sweat. Still, the big question right now is after the 2024 season, which team is gonna pick Travis Hunter?

CU alum Matt McChesney, back on August 13th mentioned something important about Hunter and the NFL draft. “really pray to God that he gets drafted by somebody that’s young and smart,” Matt had said. Hunter, back in 2023, already blew people away with his performance. During the season opener, the kid caught 11 balls and also recorded 152 snaps. With Coach Prime, Hunter flourished. So it’s understandable why Matt would mention something like that.

And honestly, team-wise? Raiders make the perfect sense for Travis. Antonio Pierce, HC for Raiders, and Coach Prime already have a solid relationship. Deion’s kids, Shedeur and Shilo, would even enjoy playing with the team. However, ESPN’s Jordan Reid had a more practical suggestion for Huter. Reid had mentioned that Hunter would make the perfect fit for the Seahawks. The team could benefit from Hunter’s 2-way style. Regardless of where he heads next, one thing is for sure, Buffs fans would miss the kid.
