Is SEC favoritism real, or are Big Ten teams finally getting the recognition they deserve?

The release of the second set of college football rankings on Tuesday night shook the college football world from top to bottom. Big Ten teams are on cloud nine, as four of the top five ranked teams are from the conference. No one saw it coming when the season started. Just like every year, fans expected SEC dominance, and instead, what are we getting? Georgia Bulldogs is sitting on the No. 12 rank. Naturally, Kirby Smart’s team’s rank has invited opinions.

On the November 13th episode of the Triple Option, Coach Urban Meyer, Mark Ingram II, and Rob Stone break down the latest rankings and playoff bracket as Georgia is almost out of the playoff scenario sitting on no. 12. “Yeah, we’ll see. You know, I mean, but Marcus, you are so good. You’re transitioning me to this next conversation. We ran a Twitter poll earlier today on the triple-option social media handle. We essentially asked that question right now, and 53% of the people said 53% of we love the people. We said putting in a three-loss SEC team over a two-loss ACC championship game loser, which would be Miami or SMU, so they feel like a three-loss as they’re given big value to a three-loss SEC team. 47% of those chiming in would be putting in a two-loss.”

A week ago, Georgia was the No. 2 seed in the first college football playoff rankings. What happened in between this drop from No. 2 to No. 12? The 10-28 loss to Ole Miss. There is a chance at redemption for Kirby Smart. Win against No. 7 Tennessee and they may control their playoffs’ destiny.

But even if they lose, don’t you think they are going to be in the final playoff rankings? That’s what Urban Meyer is pointing out. It’s almost unimaginable that 53 per cent of people have voted to see a 3-loss SEC team in the playoffs. If Georgia loses to Tennessee in the coming week, they’ll be that SEC team. Let’s see what happens, as many college football experts, including Meyer, are raising their voices against such kind of favoritism in these rankings.
