The carpet is laid. The people have arrived. Now we wait for Bill Belichick to return to the NFL. Or at least that’s what the latest rumors suggest. For Belichick, coaching in the big leagues is reportedly not just a recurring wish anymore—it’s going to be an attempt to break a record. But for that, he’ll seriously have to consider returning, which according to a famous UNC alum is not too far away…
But before we get to the meat of the story, the 72-year-old NFL HC had ended his tenure as the New England Patriots coach after 24 seasons, following the team’s worst season (4-13) since 1992. His official statement, though, meticulously avoided any mention of the same: “I am excited for the opportunity at UNC-Chapel Hill. I grew up around college football with my Dad and treasured those times. I have always wanted to coach in college.” The detailed backstory? He was reportedly fired. Belichick did try to move on to other teams, but “failed to land” any spots, as Patriots CEO Robert Kraft ” helped torpedo his chances” as per ESPN’s Seth Wickersham.
As per an alarming revelation by Kraft in October this year, “The last three to four years wasn’t what I wanted. I had given him [Bill Belichick] so much power…he had full control over everything, and shame on me. I should’ve had some checks and balances…But he had earned that right. But then, the results weren’t there, and when you’re in a sports business, you win or you lose. There’s no gray, and I hate losing.”

So, in the end, Belichick—one of the greatest NFL head coaches of all time—left the league. Unceremoniously, “disgusted”, and as a “big f*** you to the NFL”. But exactly 19 days after the North Carolina Tar Heels football announced his induction, and even before Belichick could officially start his tenure as a college football HC, he’s already thinking of leaving, which was further (semi) confirmed by noted UNC alum, veteran stat keeper for UNC-Duke basketball games, and a man lovingly called as a “walking encyclopedia”…
Freddie Kiger sat down to have lunch at Town Hall Burger on December 11, where he discussed Belichick’s future. “Oh my gosh! The whole country is talking about Bill Belichick…The thing I’m concerned personally, not speaking for anybody, personally…is the man’s in his early 70s. I’m not sure he’ll buy in to be a collegiate coach.” Well, he’s not completely wrong. As of late, several reports have stated that the former NFL coach wants to chase down former Miami Dolphins HC Don Shula’s all-time NFL record for the most wins (regular season and playoffs combined). Shula has 347 wins, while Belichick is at 333.
Fred further clarified his statement, saying, “Personally, I’d love to see a young, dynamic, intelligent, bright head coach who wants to embrace the student body, who wants to embrace the university’s history, culture, traditions and brings an electricity to the football program that makes people want to be there, want to buy tickets, want to support it. Now can Bill Belichick do that?”
Notably, this is not the first time he’s rumored to return to an NFL coaching job. As per The Athletic‘s Diana Russini, a person close to Belichick had said, “Coaching is in his blood. He wants this.”
Whether he succeeds or fails, the primary concern is whether he will truly remain at UNC—where he’s received a five-year contract with an annual salary of $10 million, with three years guaranteed. Colin Cowherd, however, claims that he may potentially go before the project is finished in order to sign with two of the NFL’s most prestigious teams. “Here’s my hottest take. If Philadelphia loses in the first round or the second round, Bill Belichick can get out of his contract this July [2025]” Cowherd stated.

But do you know that despite all of these controversies, Bill Belichick’s girlfriend is thrilled with his new position at UNC? Let’s take a closer look.
Bill Belichick’s girlfriend proudly displays college merch
Jordan Hudson, the 24-year-old girlfriend of Bill Belichick, posted a picture of a UNC sweater with the school’s insignia prominently displayed. She wrote “Two Decades Later” as the description for the Instagram story, perhaps implying that it took too long for the sweatshirts to get there from her boyfriend’s new job at UNC.

The former cheerleader has been extremely forthcoming about her relationship with the former Patriots HC. As per available data, they have developed a strong friendship because of their common hobbies, which include sports and the outdoors. According to sources, despite their vast age difference, the two attempt to maintain harmony with one another, and are undeterred by the trolls and detractors. The two had been dating for over a year after meeting on a flight in 2022.
Their relationship appears to be quite strong, but Bill Belichick’s agreement with UNC appears to be in doubt. Let’s wait and see if the former NFL coach will be named as the greatest coach of the NCAA, too.
