Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones loves to celebrate the glory of the franchise and recreate that. He credits himself a lot for purchasing the team way back in 1989. Not only that, forcing No. 88 on his best receiver and No. 94 on their top pass rusher is also part of his attempt to relive the memories of the 1990s team, so close to the heart of the owner of the $11 franchise. Indeed, Deion Sanders is a shining piece in that. After all, in his 14 seasons in the NFL, Coach Prime has devoted five to the Cowboys. So when the team is going down, calls are rife to bring him back under the coaching hat. But you can not say it’s all about nostalgia, can you?
Since retiring, Sanders has become one of the most popular head coaches in the NCAA. He helped turn Jackson State into a force, going 27-6 before heading to Colorado. Despite a promising start, his first season saw the Buffaloes slide to a 4-8 record. However, 2024 has been a turnaround for them.
With Sanders’ son Shedeur as quarterback and the two-way sensation Travis Hunter, the Buffaloes have achieved a 7-2 record and are currently second in the Big 12, after an impressive 41-27 victory on Saturday. It is of little surprise that Bovada has Deion Sanders as the favorite to coach the Cowboys in 2025. Now an NFL insider has joined the cry for Deion Sanders to take his talents to the big league.

Recently on November 12, during the episode of First Things First, Chris Broussard made an ice-breaking take out of nowhere and made it clear “Hire Deion Sanders,” he said. “And that’s not an original take, others have said that too, so I’m not claiming that. But I think he’s done a much better job at Colorado than any of us expected.” Broussard’s point is indeed hard to ignore.
Broussard added, “They’re 7-2, they might get to the playoffs, and he is a guy that even though Jerry might not empower the head coach, Deion’s got the clout. Like those players—Micah Parsons and those other guys—will respect Deion Sanders.” It’s undeniable. Also, we can’t deny how bad things are looking at Dallas.
Dak Prescott is out for the rest of the NFL season following surgery and the Cowboys are currently third in the NFC East with a 3-6 record. Amid chances of Mike McCarthy coming back as the head coach looking bleak, the Cowboys suffered a crushing defeat in Dallas on Sunday, losing 34-6 to the Philadelphia Eagles.

What’s your perspective on:
Could Deion Sanders be the savior the Dallas Cowboys desperately need to turn their season around?
Have an interesting take?
McCarthy, who won Super Bowl XLV with the Green Bay Packers, is coaching the Cowboys on an expiring contract. He started the season with a 62.7 win percentage, the highest in the career of any coach in team history. Simultaneously, he had led Dallas to two NFC East titles in the past three years.
Under McCarthy, the Cowboys have achieved at least 12 wins for three consecutive seasons – the second such successful phase in franchise history after the 1990s when it won three Super Bowls in four seasons. But they could not replicate the regular season success into the playoffs, as they could only register 1-3 record there during his tenure. Now, with the Cowboys’ season kind of over before Thanksgiving, Jones is desperate to win a Super Bowl for the first time since 1995. Ironically it was the same year when Jones landed Prime Time.
Notably, the trend of teams bringing in former players as coaches is on the rise, with Dan Campbell at the helm of the Detroit Lions, DeMeco Ryans leading the Houston Texans, and Jerod Mayo in charge of the New England Patriots.
Chris Broussard believes that for the Cowboys Deion might be that ex-player to reignite the spark Jerry’s looking for. And, Nick Wright didn’t hold back either, then said: “I think they’re gonna have a top-five pick, and Jerry’s gonna try to bring in Travis Hunter and Coach Prime. That’ll get us back on the spotlight.” Broussard agreed as he added, “I think Deion can handle the spotlight.” No wonder that this is just adding more power to voices that have already been calling for Deion Sanders’ addition to the Cowboys squad. Take Ex-NFL head coach Rex Ryan for instance.
“Deion Sanders may be in play here. They need something. They need to have somebody that has the pride in that organization. Being a Dallas Cowboy, the pride you take in it, and by the way, Deion everywhere he’s been has been kicking you know what,” Ryan said on ESPN’s ‘Get Up’. He believes, Mike McCarthy, despite being a good football coach, is going to be out the door.
“But watch what happens. They need that. How are you going to get this kid back on board? He’s going to have to respect the guy that comes into that building. You not going to respect Deion Sanders? He was twice the player you were – and I coached Deion Sanders. He was a great teammate,” Ryan further sang Coach Prime’s praise.
But Let’s be real — this prediction’s kinda a long shot. For that to happen, Deion would flip the script and go back on his word and break the promise, coach Prime made it very clear that he’d only make the NFL jump if he could coach his sons, Shedeur, and Shilo.
Deion Sanders has not veered off from his stand

Back in August, Deion Sanders made it crystal clear that he wasn’t going anywhere soon. He told the media, “I’m just getting started in college football. I don’t think this is the closing, it’s just different levels to this thing. Although I’m 100% sure that I’m not going to be their coach next year, I’m still gonna have influence on their lives because I’m their father.” That should’ve been the end of the conversation, right? He’s committed to Colorado. But of course, the NFL temptation keeps knocking.
Then Sanders took it a step further, dismissing the idea that he’d follow his sons Shedeur and Shilo into the NFL, saying, “Another misconception is that I’m gonna leave when my kids leave. That’s the dumbest thing I ever saw in my life, like, I’m gonna follow my sons. Come on. That’s not a dad.” And while we get the fatherly devotion, the writing’s on the wall: Deion’s not just a dad—he’s a competitor, and he knows what he brings to the table. If that is not enough, he just reiterated his words on Tuesday.
During an episode of Speak, the Colorado Buffaloes coach made clear he enjoys where he’s at right now. Former teammate Michael Irvin asked Sanders about speculation he could take the Dallas Cowboys job next season, and Coach Prime claimed he loved where he was.

“Don’t start that,” Deion quipped as Irvin was about to ask Deion about the widespread speculation. Then, when Irvin said Jerry Jones and the Cowboys needed better and directly asked if Sanders was interested in the job, Colorado’s coach had a dramatic response. He picked up his laptop and walked to the window to show the background of his office, looking out onto Folsom Field, repeating, “I love it where I am.”
So What’s it gonna be? Will Deion Sanders stick to his guns and keep building his legacy at Colorado, or will he take the plunge into the NFL pressure cooker? We wait for the curtain to be raised. But one thing’s for sure: If Deion’s future is in the NFL, it won’t be just another coaching gig. It’ll be a revolution.
