Is Colorado's injury-free fall camp a sign of Coach Prime's genius or just plain luck?

“Destruction is going to be released.” This was something Dewey Smith had mentioned back on Thee Pregame Show on August 10th. Going from 1-11 to 4-8 is a massive feat. While one might think that Colorado still had a bad run last year, you still cannot deny the fact that Coach Prime has put in his all to revive the team. The new O-line has 6 new offensive linemen, with Jordan Seaton leading the bunch. Also, Pat Shurmur is on the team to help the boys out with their overall defense. Not only that, one of the stars of the show, Travis Hunter, is in a really good spot with a massive weight increase and a much stronger presence on the field. However, with the fall camp out of the way, fans might’ve thought that the Buffs could see some setbacks.

Well, no, Deion made it very clear during the press conference on August 17th that there were no injuries. Coach Prime had one main goal in his head during the camp. “I wanted to fatigue them,” he mentioned. The goal was to see who could retain the most information, even after being burned out. Coach Prime also went on to say that another thing he wanted to see from the team was how well they do with a handicapped offense. “I made sure the offense, we didn’t show no signals,” Deion mentioned. Despite that, the boys did well and cleared the camp without any other issues. “I think they did a phenomenal job. I’m proud of them,” Deion noted. Deion Sanders takes the 28th spot when it comes down to the total number of coaches who have ever coached at Colorado. What makes this amazing fall camp possible is the large NFL experience that Coach Prime has managed to bring into his camp. With over 12 years of NFL under his belt, Deion has gone on to hire many NFL coaches/players like Shurmur, Warren Sapp, Brandon Jordan, and Adalius Thomas for the team.

With no other setbacks, Deion also went on to mention that Shedeur had shown amazing progress. The kid had total control of the field. This is something we even saw during one of the practice games where Shedeur managed to throw a 55-yard pass to Jimmy Horn. Being the main star of the show, Shedeur Sanders is making this year look like his redemption season. Back in 2023, he was crowned the most sacked QB with a sack rate of 9.8%. This time, with the new O-line and with Pat Shurmur’s help, Shedeur has made considerable progress in his overall skill. Deion is also betting on Will Sheppard, the new X-receiver, to help out Shedeur. Sheppard had previously clocked in 20 MPH+ during a run and had also shown promise during some practice sessions with the boys. With his speed, Shedeur can easily match his accuracy and sneak in some solid passes. However, while the Buffs were lucky and are on the train of redemption, a different team from the club isn’t looking that great.

Problems for the Bulldogs

Ranked at No.1 on the AP preseason polls, fans and analysts are expecting a lot from the Bulldogs and Kirby Smart. With Carson Beck leading the team, many already think that the Bulldogs are going to lift the cup. Hell, back on August 15th, Kevin Coleman also noted, “he could be the QB1 of the class,” regarding Beck. However, one big problem looms over their head. 6 major players have taken a massive hit after the fall camp. Injuries ranging from hamstring to Achilles plague almost all the O-line players.

Beat up, banged up, and we’re trying to get them back,” Smart had mentioned regarding the condition of the players. If Kirby Smart doesn’t figure out something in time, we could see Beck potentially facing the same problem that Shedeur had faced last year. With an injured O-line, Beck could easily lose his ground inside the pockets. Let’s hope the Bulldogs and Smart figure out a proper alternative soon enough.
