If there’s anyone who hates Deion Sanders more than Paul Finebaum, it’d be Jason Whitlock. While Finebaum only focuses on criticizing the team and sometimes raises valid points, Whitlock is out here getting jealous 24/7. Now we agree that Deion Sanders has a heck of a lot to prove this year, but you cannot say that the 2024 season Buffs games have not been enjoyable. The biggest factor that we saw this year is the overall improvement that the defense, Shedeur Sanders, and Travis Hunter have showcased. However, Whitlock does not look impressed.
During a September 23rd episode of Jason Whitlock’s YouTube show, the Michigan alum quickly criticizes Shedeur Sanders and the entire Hail Mary win the Buffs had over Baylor. “Deja-fool and Deion Sanders. Is everybody’s memory that bad?….. Oh my god, you would’ve thought they won the Super Bowl…… Everybody is acting like ‘Deion what a program builder'” Whitlock mentioned.
Whitlock’s main gripe was that people are over-hyping Deion Sanders and what his team managed to pull off against Baylor. Last year as well Deion and the Buffs were 3-1 at this time and then things started to go downhill. “They were 3-1 last year too. Deion has brought excitement, but let’s not crown him just yet,” Whitelock mentioned.

However, the point that Whitlock is missing out on ain’t the hype. It’s the fact that even after being pushed to the edge and almost losing the game at 31-24, Shedeur Sanders managed to pull something that many QBs won’t be able to do. NFL analyst Daniel Jeremiah had explained it perfectly back when he published Shedeur’s scouting report. This guy manages to shine under pressure. While the main issue with him last season was his inability to give up the football, this time around all of that has changed.
Shedeur saw the opening and threw the 43-yard pass to LaJohntay Wester. Yes, the entire thing was a gamble, but it worked out and that is what people are so hyped about. We all know that the offensive line still needs a heck lot of improvement if Coach Prime ever wants to stand against teams like Bulldogs or Longhorns or Tide, but credit where credit is due Whitlock. You gotta praise Deion Sanders for being able to change the face of the team so drastically.

Another thing to keep in mind when we are talking about the Buffs is their entire defense. There are so many improvements people keep on missing out on. Whitlock even missed out on it! Yes, there’s a long way to go, but for now, can we just look at how this team has changed compared to the Buffs we saw back in 2023?

35 points in each game. That was the Buffs defense when Sean Kelly was the defensive coordinator. After Kelly left, Deion had to gamble, and he picked Robert Livingstone. Everyone had their doubts regarding the new defensive line, but Livingstone made it work. The Buffs have given out barely 30 points in each of their games in the 2024 season. This is as good as the Nebraska defense, which is regarded as one of the top defenses in the country.

If that ain’t enough, Travis Hunter on the defense is also making quite the name for himself. Hunter managed to create history against the Rams. With his defensive interception of the Rams QB’s pass, Hunter managed to run the football up by 38 yards. He wrapped the game with 2 TDs, 100 yards and 13 catches.
Against Baylor, the game-winning play came from Hunter as well. When the Bears were in the endzone, Hunter managed to force a fumble and the fate of the game was sealed. Well, Whitlock is going to take a while to digest the fact that Deion Sanders ain’t all talk.
