Well, Colorado Buffs face a disappointment already, and the game hasn’t even begun yet. The Memorial Stadium in Lincoln is buzzing with energy, but not the kind the Buffs were hoping for. It’s a home-field advantage for the Huskers, and the packed red stands on September 7th are proof of that.
Now, both teams are looking for their second win of the season, making this a treat for the crowd. Well, the Buffs have won the last three meetings against the Huskers, but making it four in a row seems like a tough task today, especially with the intense atmosphere they’re facing.
As Colorado’s players walked onto the field this Saturday, they were met with loud boos from the Husker faithful. With a sold-out crowd of around 90,000, tickets, those boos were probably deafening. The few black-and-gold fans scattered among the sea of red could barely make themselves heard. But hey, no one expects Nebraska fans to cheer for their biggest rivals quite robotically, right?

Nebraska and Colorado have a long-standing rivalry that goes back to when they were conference rivals. Even though they’re in different conferences now, Big 10 and Big 12 respectively, the competition between them is still intense. Well, with coaches who couldn’t be more different, it only adds fuel to the fire. Nebraska’s Matt Rhule is all about traditional methods, while Colorado’s Deion Sanders is shaking things up with his flashy style.

Matt Rhule’s Huskers are feeling confident this season, especially with his Patrick Mahomes-like quarterback Dylan Raiola. Raiola already led the team to a huge 40-7 victory in Week 1. Well, that makes the Buffs’ 31-26 win in their opener look like a close call by comparison. However, the Buffs did face a tougher opponent in North Dakota State, while the Huskers went up against a less challenging UTEP team.

Still, Nebraska’s head coach, Matt Rhule, is all filled with confidence, believing his team can take down Deion Sanders’ squad this time around. In a press conference, he stated, “The goal this week is to play to our standard.” He didn’t stop there; he also encouraged Nebraska fans to bring their best energy, saying, “Let’s all be Nebraska Nice on Sunday. It should be a loud, loud raucous atmosphere.” Well, a little slip of the tongue there—it’s Saturday, not Sunday. But it doesn’t mean he’s nervous about facing a big opponent. Rhule seems to have a lot of faith in his rookie quarterback and believes he can give the Buffs a tough fight this time around.
