Can Georgia's defense hold strong against Tennessee's explosive offense, or will the Vols pull an upset?

One more Saturday could make or break your favorite college football team’s season. Now that the season has reached a point where one single mistake will not only hamper your game but also reflect on the team’s playoff standings. This is the case with Kirby Smart’s Georgia Bulldogs, as they are going to face Tennessee this week. Losing the game is not an option, as the team is already on a 7-2 streak this season. Meanwhile, CFB GameDay’s Rece Davis has some thoughts on Georgia’s future.

On the November 15th episode of Dawgs247 ESPN, journalist Rece Davis talked about his opinion on Georgia vs. Tennessee and highlighted the possible outcome for the Dawgs if they lose against the Vols. “So I still think there is a way. I would call this a near-elimination game because they will need some help if they lose the third game. But I won’t say that they’re out of it for sure, simply because their schedule is so much more than what anybody else has played,” he said. Losing one more game in the ongoing season might not be a good sign for the Bulldogs’ playoff hopes.

It’s a well-known fact that if the team wants to secure a spot in the playoffs this season, they need to win their remaining three games in the regular season, and losing against Tennessee will only crush their hopes and land them in a weird position. But if they win against them, then the team can easily win against UMass. Moreover, we can also not ignore the fact that the Georgia Bulldogs had a tough game schedule this season.

Even Rece Davis mentioned the same thing in the interview, saying, “Now, if they play Tennessee and they lose on a 62-yard field goal, they’ve still played the toughest schedule in the country.” That’s a straight fact: Georgia has to face Clemson, Alabama, and Ole Miss down the road, and playing them is not an easy task. Now let’s see how their Saturday showdown turns out. But before that, let’s discuss whether the Georgia Bulldogs really have to worry about the Vols or not.

Have an interesting take?

This is going to be a do-or-die situation for the Georgia Bulldogs, as losing against the Vols is not an option for them. Knowing the fact that the Tennessee offense is one of their key strengths, with running back Dylan Sampson scoring 1129 rushing yards with 20 touchdowns, is surely a matter of concern for the team. However, talking about Georgia, they look still more than capable of making the Vols fight hard for the win with their raging defense. Yes, the Dawgs defense, which has just allowed 111 yards per game while holding their opponents to just 3.35 yards per carry on average, is going to give them a big advantage against the Vols.

However, Georgia Bulldogs star quarterback Carson Beck’s struggle to maintain a consistent game has been the talk of the town since the start of the season. And Carson Beck getting sacked five times last week was one of the major concerns of the team. Now coming to the Vols, everyone is eager to see their quarterback, Nico Iamaleava, make a big comeback after leaving the team with an apparent head injury playing against MS State. Now, with all these turns of events, it will be interesting to see how Georgia holds up on their playoff dream.
