“There’s no such thing as ready. You just jump on a moving train and you try not to die.” The entire Deion Sanders redemption arc with the Buffs can be summarized with this single line. Coach Prime took the risk, got rid of the “Hollywood” tag, and made the Buffs one of the most well-known programs in the Big 12. Yeah, they lost the Bowl game, so what? In this single season, Deion Sanders has proved that he is a good coach. 9 win run. A Heisman winner on the roster. And arguably, the top QB draft pick is coming in as well. What more could you want? This season will go down in history as one of the best the Buffs have ever had, and it will also go down in history for having an HC who was not only an excellent mentor but also an amazing father figure.
Jimmy Horn Jr. If you don’t know about his guy, then you have been following the Buffs properly. Had a massive year back in 2023 and got in 6 touchdowns for Colorado. This time around, had 37 receptions under his belt with over 400 yards. All of this is done while fighting his own demons. “Free Him,” Horn Sr. wrote in the caption of his Instagram story, which also had a picture of him and Horn Sr. There was wrong done, but at least the father deserves to see where his boy landed up, right?

You see, Horn didn’t exactly have the best life. Jimmy Horn Sr. raised the boy as a single parent, and he did a good job at that. But then 2021 rolled in, and Horn Sr. was incarcerated on drug-related charges. This could’ve been the end for Horn Jr., but football and Coach Prime saved him.
“One practice, when I came back from my dad’s court, Coach Prime [said], ‘Let me know if you need a day off.’ I’m like, ‘No, I don’t need a day off.” And this is where Deion comes in. Not only has Coach Prime looked after Horn Jr. like he is his kid, but he has also not allowed the young man to feel the absence of his father.
Horn Sr. will be mighty proud of what Deion Sanders has done for his kid. It ain’t no wonder why Jimmy has remained so dedicated to the Buffs. “No money in this world can make me switch up on my dawgs,” Jimmy had proclaimed, and it remains true. We think the connection between Jimmy and Deion grew exponentially when Coach Prime went for a prison visit with Horn.

You will always have Coach Prime. “I went to one of the prisons with Jimmy Horn… His father is incarcerated here,” Deion Sanders brought up the topic back on the ‘We Got Time Today’ talk show.
The entire visit managed to make Deion extremely emotional. The experience was “wholesome, heartwarming, touching, tear-jerking.” Did you know that Deion Sanders made an appeal to the judge for Horn Sr’s case as well?
“I just want to let you know that I’m praying for Jimmy Horn Sr., who’s been incarcerated for a multitude of years,” Deion was seen saying in a video footage that was presented to the judge overseeing the case. “He has repented for what has transpired, and he is truly a different man,” Deion Sanders added.
