Mike Norvell and Florida State are in a deep hole. With a dismal 1-7 record, the Seminoles have become the laughingstock of college football. After a brief glimmer of hope following their win over Cal, they’ve spiraled downward, losing seven straight games. And ouch, another blow to FSU! A top recruit just decommitted, adding insult to injury for a team already struggling. And let’s not forget, rival fans are having a field day, rubbing salt in the wound and fueling the recruiting fire.
On3’s Hayes Fawcett claims that CJ Wiley, a 4-star wide receiver recruit, has left FSU. According to him, the wide receiver now has 35 offers overall and is ranked as the Top Uncommitted WR in the ’25 class. Although Wiley has been committed to Florida State since June 2024, he is still looking at other universities. The four-star went to this week’s Texas A&M vs. LSU game in College Station. He also attended the Georgia game against Auburn.

Given the current state of the program, it’s tough to argue against that point. Not too long ago, FSU was putting together one of the most promising wide receiver groups in the country, with a bunch of highly-rated recruits like 4-star Malik Clark, Daylan McCutcheon, and CJ Wiley. But things took a turn, and now none of those guys are part of the team. It’s clear that the coaching staff’s recruiting efforts haven’t been as effective as they’d hoped. All they can do now is look ahead to the next favorable options and hope for better luck.
As of now, there are just 11 verbal commitments for FSU’s 2025 class after Wiley’s departure. Standing in this position, CFB supporters back the wide receiver’s choice and attempt to seize the player to other teams.

Fans offer various options for the ex-FSU WR
CJ Wiley isn’t the only one leaving the Seminoles. In early October, wide receivers Daylan McCutcheon and Malik Clark also decommitted from Florida State’s 2025 class. McCutcheon flipped to Texas, while Clark committed to South Carolina. With these three talented 4-star prospects gone, FSU now finds itself without a single WR committed to their 2025 class. This means the Seminoles have lost three of ESPN’s top 25 wide receiver prospects in just 26 days, leaving fans frustrated. One fan summed it up, saying, “Just absolutely devastating for FSU bro😭.”
Wiley started his football journey at Milton High School in Georgia, where he quickly became a standout. He’s now considered one of the top in-state recruits, ranked as the No. 11 prospect in Georgia according to 247Sports. Wiley also helped Milton win the 7A state championship in 2023. With his talent and track record, schools aren’t backing off. Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs are still in pursuit. One fan even told Wiley, “Go dawgs 🐶,” while another playfully added, “Your welcome, Georgia #gocanes.”

Georgia’s a big contender, but so is Alabama—though the Tennessee Vols just stunned the Crimson Tide with a 24-17 victory last week. Vols fans are eager too, with one writing, “Slide to Tennessee man.” Meanwhile, Colorado is making waves in college football, and a CU Buffs fan chimed in, “Slideee🦬,” hoping the rising program, which just squeezed into the AP Top 25, will seize the opportunity.
Well, it’s still unclear where Wiley will land. So, a curious fan simply asked, “Miami?” And why not? The Hurricanes just dominated the Seminoles and are riding high with an 8-0 record. As of now, all we can do is wait and see where this talented wide receiver decides to take his talents next.
