For Dan Mullen, Ohio State remains the best college football team after Week 3 despite the emergence of a new No. 1 team. Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns have shone in their performance so far. They may have lost Quinn Ewers to injury but Arch Manning seamlessly slipped into his shoes and left no room for despair.
Meanwhile, the Buckeyes have also displayed their dominance in their 108-6 record in their two games played. No wonder they climbed to the top of Mullen’s rankings to remain there. Still, the thing that’s making people skeptical is how far Georgia is thrust down in Dan Mullen’s rankings.
Dan Mullen posted his top CFB teams on the Week 3 top 25 on X on September 17. But something seems to be quite off as it is a stark contrast to the AP top 25 rankings. As per the former CFB coach and current TV analyst’s rankings, Ohio State grabbed the coveted No. 1 spot while Georgia, who was once the No. 1 team, is not even in the top 3 but sank at No. 5.

This is a huge difference from AP’s latest top 25 rankings. Ahead of Week 4, Texas becomes the No. 1 team for their dominance in all their three games while Georgia takes a step back at No. 2 with Ohio State trailing at No. 3. But as far as Dan Mullen’s rankings go, is it fair for Georgia to be in the fifth?
True, the Bulldogs failed to create an essence after their close 13-12 victory over Kentucky in Week 3. But they also went 82-6 in their first two games.

As far as records go, Georgia hasn’t played like Ohio State. The Bulldogs opened their season with a game against Clemson whom they beat 34-3. Then in Week 2, they emulated the same dominance with a 48-3 win against Tennessee Tech. But their Week 3’s lack of dominance made them take a step back, or four steps back in Mullen’s case. If the Bulldogs don’t turn their game around, it’s going to be a grim case considering their next game is due on September 28 with No. 4 Alabama.
As for Ohio State, it is their time of the season with a total of 1,087 yards in offense. They will be playing their last non-conference game with Marshall in Week 4 at Ohio Stadium. After that, the ride might get bumpy as the conference clash begins with Michigan State in Week 5. When that begins, we’ll see how right Dan Mullen’s opinions are.
