Oh no, not again! The 2025 season is yet to lift the curtains. However, some programs have already made it to the headlines. Not for good reasons though. This time it’s Harvard football that has been the talk of the town. Courtesy? Their player Seamus Gilmartin – who landed in trouble after being arrested on the University of Georgia campus. Well, he was not alone. Gilmartin was arrested along with the sorority girl Lily Stewart. While he is a known face, Stewart too went viral with her mugshot. Now what are the charges brought against them?

Now is the time when the players are making the most use of their off-season. Bulking themselves up, toning themselves down, working on their physical strengths. However, at this time, Gilmartin turned heads with his off-field shenanigans. Authorities caught the 20-year-old tight end over the weekend around 3 AM on March 23, Sunday morning. He and Stewart were wandering around the campus building after business hours. The cops came to know about them after an alarm went on at the Tate Student Center, which closes at midnight.

As per the reports, the tight end was arrested with multiple fake IDs from different states.  Of the two IDs that were found on him, one is from New York and another from California. The IDs produced no returns, and both were deemed fakes. Not just this, Gilmartin was charged with underage possession of alcohol along with loitering/prowling and possession of a fraudulent ID. And obviously, he now has to face dire circumstances. The tight end is barred from the campus for two years. The sophomore had racked up 379 yards and four touchdowns in the 2024 season. When it comes to Gilmartin, fans must remember the date- October 11, 2024.

Jaden Craig along with the tight end and Cooper Barkate helped Harvard beat Cornell 38-20. Craig lifted a pass to a wide-open Gilmartin for a 54-yard catch-and-run for a TD. Well, that marked the first of the sophomore, and with it came a good 17-14 lead for Harvard. He then stole the show catching a 20-yard scoring pass from Craig. In that way, losing Gilmartin for two years is going to be a costly loss for the Crimson tribe. Now what about Stewart?

Seamus Gilmartin was visiting Lily Stewart

This was her second arrest in March. Her mugshot started to do rounds on social media, as the UGA sorority member caused quite the stir after being arrested for speeding earlier this month after being clocked at 84 MPH in a 55 zone. But what made her so viral? The 20-year-old was grinning from ear to ear when she posed for the cop cams. Since then, she has gained significant online attention, with numerous social media users flooding her inbox.

Surprisingly, she paved her way to be famous (read: infamous) again. The 20-year-old sophomore Alpha Chi Omega sorority girl from UGA was booked into the Athens-Clarke County Jail just before 5:30 am. She was picked up for loitering/prowling and obstructing a law enforcement officer along with Gilmartin. As per the reports, at the time of the arrest, Stewart said, “Didn’t want to get caught doing anything bad because I am out on bond right now.” Later on, she was released after posting a $4600 bond.

Seamus Gilmartin's arrest: A youthful mistake or a reflection of college athletes' reckless behavior?

Have an interesting take?

Along with Lily Stewart and Seamus Gilmartin, who was a visitor, the group consisted of another student 20-year-old Payton Drewer, and visitor Whitaker Tollmann, 19. As per the reports, as police approached them, the group attempted to flee through the south doors. However, the officers detained Drewer, Tollmann, and Gilmartin near the Tate Deck but Stewart escaped. She was later found crouching behind a wall near Gate 10 of Sanford Stadium in an apparent attempt to hide. The sorority girl has admitted her fault for opening the locked Tate Center door without scanning a keycard, “Truly that was actually my fault.” Meanwhile, Harvard University has not issued a statement regarding Seamus Gilmartin’s arrest.
