Is Steve Sarkisian's QB indecision a sign of deeper issues within the Texas Longhorns?

Having two quarterbacks on the roster, is quite lucky, isn’t it? Well, nah. Steve Sarkisian’s Texas Longhorns showed how having too much is often a problem. And who gave them the reality check? Of course, Kirby Smart and Georgia boys. Throughout this season, QB Quinn Ewers had been Sarkisan’s apple of the eye. So much so, that even after undergoing an abdominal strain injury, the Texas HC chose him over backup QB Arch Manning.

But on Saturday, October 19, Sarkisian’s move backfired as he had to swap Ewers with Manning which was enough for the Longhorns to guess a “quarterback controversy” looming around. As an insider warns of the QB drama, Sarkisian has already slipped into the NFL legend’s bad books.

Right before the Texas vs Georgia face-off, Ewers was the clear QB1. While Georgia was dominating Texas, Sarkisian made a surprising move by replacing the quarterback. The expectations were high from Ewers who finished 6-of-12 for 17 yards. Plus, without finishing the game, he got sacked three times. What Sarkisian thought was wise was bringing Manning into action. But the HC was yet to hit the SETTLE button as Ewers returned to finish the game. Apparently, the QB had no idea that he would be called back again as The Athletic analyst Chris Vannini dropped in with some quick updates. “I asked Quinn when they told you Arch was going in did they tell you you were going to go back in and they he said no,” shared Vannini.

That clearly comes off as a warning for Texas’ shaky gameplan, “This opens up a QB controversy for the rest of the season whether or not Steve Sarkisian wants that to be the case.” The constant swaps have been disturbing for the fans. But the Texas HC can’t be blamed. He was facing loss for the first time this season and thought it best to try the trial-and-error method. Sadly, doing so, he got blacklisted by the ex-Baltimore Ravens QB.

NFL legend weighs in to give Steve Sarkisian a reality check

In an effort to save the sinking Longhorns ship, Sarkisian made a QB swap. But hardly did he realize that he would lose all the faith doing so. As the move sparked significant debate on social media, it was Robert Griffin III’s turn to pitch in. “Unless Quinn Ewers is injured you ride or die with your guy. What the hell is Arch Manning gonna do against Georgia down 20? That’s not a great spot to put the young Manning in AT ALL,” wrote the upset 2011 Heisman Trophy winner.

When despite the neverending switches till the last minute, it was time for Sarkisian and his boys to pack their bags and go home after the 30-15 loss, Griffin further decided to sprinkle some salt on the Texas HC’s fresh wounds. “THAT’S WHY YOU DON’T BENCH QUINN EWERS,” he added.

Looks like Steve Sarkisian is absolutely sure about his decision. He later justified himself stating, “I felt Quinn was a little uneasy. I felt like giving him a chance to kind of step back and regroup.” Now let’s see what the future has in store for the Longhorns in case the HC chooses not to clear the mess.
