Can Garrett Nussmeier capitalize on Alabama's shaky form, or will the Crimson Tide bounce back stronger?

When Kalen DeBoer addressed the Alabama fans “Make sure our hearts are in the right place,” hardly did he know that Bama would be the reason for their big heartbreak. Given the current situation, the Crimson Tide has landed in a sticky spot, losing to underdogs Vanderbilt Commodores and Tennessee Volunteers. Now that they are moving into Week 11, 6-2, looks like someone is going to cash in on the opportunity of DeBoer and Co.’s wobbly state. As the LSU Tigers will be hosting the Alabama Crimson Tide on November 9, speculations say that the Tigers QB Garrett Nussmeier is all geared up to strip them off. Interestingly, as Nussmeier’s redemption is on the line, the Alabama QB dropped in with some good words for the Tigers QB.

Well, CFB fans are already aware of the scenes between Alabama and LSU. Back in 2019, the Tigers were all set to break Bama’s eight-game series win streak with their QB Joe Burrow at the helm to crush Crimson Tide’s Tua Tagovailoa. The 2022 season too witnessed Jayden Daniels squaring off with Bryce Young. Cut to 2024, it’s not the same Alabama that GOAT Nick Saban gifted fans. Does that leave the LSU QB Nussmeier with a slight advantage? Well, the Cover 3 Podcast analyst, Danny Kanell feels so. He is not quite convinced about DeBoer and boys, “Bama in their last four games versus ranked opponents are 0-4 against the spread.”

Initially, he takes the middle path by not getting too judgemental about the Crimson Tide QB Jalen Milroe, “I do think Jalen Milroe will have some success I do think he goes off with his legs and has one of his better games.” But ultimately, he takes the Tigers QB’s side. Well, Nussmeier could not be his best version against Texas A&M as they lost 38-23 due to their struggling offense that failed to protect him. However, he would finally get the time to be the star of the evening on November 9.

Buckle up LSU fans, Kanell has got some good news for you, “I think Garrett Nussmeier is going to pick apart that Alabama secondary it’s been a weakness of theirs one of the reasons he struggled against A&M…his offensive line struggled at home versus a defensive line I don’t think is as good as A&M’s.” There are enough points handy to take a look at Alabama’s struggling defense.

Jalen Milroe’s surprising reaction to Garrett Nussmeier

What’s your perspective on:

Can Garrett Nussmeier capitalize on Alabama's shaky form, or will the Crimson Tide bounce back stronger?

Have an interesting take?

Before the Vandy mishap, Crimson Tide had ranked the second-best in the country with a conversation percentage of 17.2% by allowing 11 third downs on 64 attempts. But against the Commodores they gave up more third-down conversions than they did against the other four teams—Western Kentucky, South Florida, Wisconsin, Georgia—all combined. Tennessee too found ways to exploit DeBoer’s defense as Alabama gave up 214 rushing yards in the second half. Going by the recent numbers they have put up and how the debut HC has been managing things, QB Milroe should be in a salty mood. But that doesn’t seem so.

Instead, as DeBoer’s QB spoke to the media he showered Nussmeier with praise, “number one I support him…He’s a good quarterback and I love to see him shine and lead those guys each and every Saturday.” Well, no doubt in the fact that Nussmeier is the more effective QB.

The Tigers’ passing down success rate is 36% which marks one of the best in the SEC. On the flip side, QB Jalen Milroe doesn’t hold such power leaving Bama’s success rate to be sitting at 30%. So it’s now a do-or-die situation for Garrett Nussmeier since by losing against Alabama they will certainly kiss the College Football Playoff and SEC contention goodbye.
