Deion Sanders is building something in Boulder that feels less like a football program and more like a movement. With every flip, every recruit, and every victory, the Buffaloes are rewriting the script of college football. And now, the Colorado Buffs man-in-charge has landed a piece so pivotal that it feels like the final stroke of a masterpiece. But what if we told you this cornerstone is not just restricted to the Heismanic powers of Travis Hunter or Shedeur Sanders, but a 17-year-old high school kid?
Coach Reed (Carl Reed Jr.) of 247Sports didn’t hold back in his assessment for an OG with a similar prefix as him, Buffs’ main guy Coach Prime. Seen in an Instagram post with the caption, “Carl Reed on Colorado right now and what to expect in the future 💯.” As the Buffs are looking sharp this season, Coach Reed was quick to give credit to this talented squad. “Travis [Hunter] is the favorite going in to win the Heisman Trophy here down the stretch,” Reed said in an Instagram post. “And Shedeur [Sanders] is going to be the #1 QB in the draft, which is what Coach Prime said WOULD happen.” But the fireworks didn’t stop there.
The analyst pointed out another, passing-the-torch type moment with Buffs QB1’s future replacement, Julian “JuJu” Lewis. As a passer, he’s so talented that he reclassified from the class of 2026 to 2025 and still ranks as ESPN’s No. 2 player in his class. It doesn’t get more elite than this!

5-star recruit Lewis flipped from USC to Colorado this week, sending shockwaves through the recruiting world. His numbers are the stuff of legends: over 10,000 passing yards in three high school seasons, including a jaw-dropping 4,000 yards as a freshman. At Carrollton, he’s been nothing short of a phenomenon, showcasing a poise and football IQ far beyond his years. Adding Lewis to an offense already featuring Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter would be like adding jet fuel to the roaring fire if these guys would stay in CFB. But considering the chase from several NFL sides, that will be tough.
For Coach Prime, the narrative is just as important as the stats. Reed emphasized the loyalty of Hunter and Sanders to their long-time coach Deion Sanders and his vision to set the stage for Colorado’s resurgence. “They went with Coach Prime to Jackson State, won the SWAC. Then they moved to Colorado,” Reed noted. “When they came out of the portal, everybody was trying to get Travis to not go to Colorado.” Yet they stuck together, proving that belief in a plan can outweigh external noise.
Recruiting criticisms have also evaporated as Sanders continues to lock in elite talents, like Jordan Seaton, the No. 1 offensive lineman in the country, who is already on board, alongside a slew of other high-profile commits, including a pass rusher who flipped from Ohio State. As Reed pointed out, “The foundation has been set.”
While Colorado narrowly missed a shot at the Big 12 Championship, finishing 9-3, an Alamo Bowl invite seems inevitable. The old man in black and gold has made it clear that the prized superstars will be there for it all.

Delighted Deion Sanders sings Ice Cube’s song
The 57-year-old was all smiles on his weekly coach’s show, channeling Ice Cube’s famous line from the song: “Today was a good day.” The reason for his good vibes? The commitment of five-star quarterback JuJu Lewis to the Buffs—a massive win for Coach Prime and his program.
Sanders didn’t hold back his excitement, calling Lewis’ addition “That’s a great thing for the program.” Known for his cannon of an arm and sharp football IQ, Juju Lewis isn’t just another recruit—he’s a game-changer. Someone has to hold the torch if his Heisman boys leave Boulder for the big league, and who better than him? Adding a personal touch as he often does, “I can’t wait to be a part of his life and coach him,” he added for his future recruit. With JuJu Lewis ready to take on the fold, the Buffaloes’ future looks brighter than ever.
