It’s hard to believe that a freshman is coming in to take over for Dylan Edwards in Colorado but desperate times call for desperate measures. The Buffaloes has underwent a major revamp for this season, with a lot of players both leaving and joining the program. As such, in the wake of it all, players like Micah Welch are expected to step up and perform exceptionally.
Micah Welch, the RB for the Colorado Buffaloes, was ranked as a 3-star prospect by recruiting services, with On3 ranking him as the number 81 running back in his class. The 5 foot 9 inch, 205 pound freshman is ready to make waves and face off against the player who used to have his mantle last year, which is Dylan Edwards. Edwards entered the transfer portal this year and signed on with the Kansas State Wildcats. Now, the Buffs fans’ will eagerly await the gameday on 12th October where both Micah and Dylan will collide forces against each other for the title of the better running back. As for now, Welch doesn’t have any conflicted words on Edwards but is just focusing on improving his game.

Brian Howell released his interview with Micah Welch on 12th August and saw the youngster talking about the new role he’s taking up and the responsibilities that come along with it. The youngster didn’t really address the rivalry that will come to light on 12th October when Edwards’ Kansas State Wildcats take on the Buffaloes but instead, talked about his own capabilities to prove his mettle. He said, ” I got the same mentality, came in to dominate, show Coach Prime I can do it all. I can run, I can pass, I can catch, I can do everything you want me to do, so I came in.” Thus, Welch might just be the answer to the pleas of the Buffaloes, seeing as over 23 players left the team in a mass exodus. Welch seems to be prepared for the challenge but how prepared is Edwards who had to transition to a whole another team?

Dylan Edwards left Boulder after just a freshman season under Coach Prime. He made the decision to transfer in late April and as per the RB, he’s still learning the ropes in Kansas. His role as a RB will remain the same as it was with Colorado, where he recorded 36 receptions for 299 yards and 4 touchdowns in his freshman year. It’s also interesting to note that Edwards was Colorado’s leading rusher in 2023 and thus, losing him might’ve been a big shock to Deion Sanders.

But now Edwards has moved past Colorado and is beginning his career with the Kansas State Wildcats where currently he’s going through a “learning curve” and growing along with it. In his words, Edwards said, “It’s definitely a learning curve, but I’m trying to get used to it every day. I’m just trying to adjust and really get acclimated to the system. It was a blessing coming in here. Having all the excitement in the world coming into practice has been great.” While Edwards is surely happy to be in Kansas, there are certainly bound to be quite the tensions between them and Colorado when they play each other in October, with Micah Welch eyeing out the freshman who left the program in a haste.
