Did Coach Prime's magic finally run out with Julian Lewis choosing USC over Colorado?

The Colorado Buffaloes are having a good season so far with a star-studded roster. With players like Shedeur Sanders, Travis Hunter, and Jimmy Horn Jr. at the helm, this squad can very likely make it to the playoffs if the team plays well together. After a phenomenal win over the Colorado State Rams, Coach Prime’s team is on cloud nine. However, it looks like a recent revelation might just bring down the mood of the program a bit.

Seeing as how Shedeur, Shilo, and Travis are set to depart to the NFL in 2025, Deion Sanders direly needs to replace their shoes with the next generation of players. They had Julian Lewis on their radar as the perfect replacement for Shedeur Sanders as the quarterback. Now, it seems like he isn’t likely to flip his commitment to USC, leaving Deion with a frown on his face. On the 15th September episode of the ‘On3 Recruits’ show, Steve Wiltfong talked about the recruiting updates for the USC Trojans. It looks like they aren’t going to lose Lewis’ commitment anytime soon.

Wiltfong spoke about the mutual decisions of Lewis’ family and said, “I think Julian Lewis and his family continue to have conversations with several schools but the intel still favors him sticking with USC when all said and done.” He further spoke up about how Colorado had the highest chance of flipping his decision. And yet, Lewis was bound to end up with the Trojans. He added, “Obviously, Colorado’s been trying to keep him warm. I think that the Lewis camp still reaches out to places like Auburn but I still like him to ultimately end up with USC.

Lewis was listed as a 5-star prospect for the 2025 class by On3 and even proved his worth when he equaled C.J. Stroud’s record by recording a perfect score at the Elite 11 program. JuJu Lewis is a valuable commodity in the world of college football, but it is highly unlikely that he will be heading anywhere except to the city of Los Angeles. With that being said, here’s a look at the efforts that Colorado made to ensure Lewis chooses them at the end of the day.

Deion Sanders and his desperate attempts to bring Lewis to Colorado

After Shedeur leaves for the NFL next year, Deion Sanders will need a power-packing quarterback to replace him, and he found that in Lewis’s talents. The USC-committ visited the program in Boulder over 3 times and got a full-on luxury treatment from Deion Sanders as well as the entire team. Shedeur Sanders and Lewis did a photoshoot together where the youngster was sitting on a throne while being handed the key by the Colorado QB, indicating that he could be the future of the Buffs from next season onwards.

Next, the city of Colorado also made a huge effort to appease Lewis by dropping his bags and joining Deion Sanders’s team when a local eatery, The Sink, named a burger after him entitled “Juju’s Precision Pass Burger.” Lewis himself had a lot of praise for the way Deion and Pat Shurmur do their recruiting, but despite their best efforts to convince him to de-commit, the 5-star prospect is staying true to his destination and disappointing a lot of Colorado fans.
