Travis Hunter is taking the Colorado Buffs to new heights. He played 532 snaps in total and stands among the top 20 at both positions he plays, receiver and corner. According to PFF, in four games in the 2024 college football season, Hunter has made 37 catches for 472 yards and scored five touchdowns. Isn’t it impressive? As a cherry on top, former Heisman winner Matt Leinart believes that Hunter even deserves a Heisman trophy. “He’s the best football player in America, I don’t think there’s a debate for what he does.” Well, looks like Leinart and Richard Sherman have different opinions on Hunter, but Sherman’s sticking to his guns. He has no regrets about calling Hunter a ”bland’‘ receiver.
Hunter could not keep calm and responded with a tweet saying, “Stop speaking on me; let me play football.” After which, Sherman felt a need to put this out on a table. He contacted Deion Sanders to sort things out with Hunter. “Just had a great conversation with Travis Hunter Jr.! I appreciate you, @Deion Sanders, for setting that up. Huge fan of that young man and grateful to clear that up.” After reading Richard Sherman’s ‘X’ post, it appears that these two have resolved any issues. Besides, let’s get into the details of this mess.

Travis Hunter, the do-it-all star for Colorado, is excelling as both a wideout and cornerback. Besides, his name is even getting considered for the Heisman this year, and NFL stars are discussing his talent. Amidst all that, former NFL star Richard Sherman took a jibe at him. According to him, Hunter has good skills and size that are better suited for a defensive role, and “as a receiver, he’s kinda bland.” “I think he goes as a corner just because receiver is his size; he’s not a special size, super dynamic route runner,” he added. Indeed, these words have some weight coming out of a former Buccaneers cornerback. But man, you’re talking about Travis Hunter! He’s the sensation of modern-age football.

Richard Sherman didn’t stop there; he further made comments on Hunter’s skills as a receiver, saying, “He’s a great athlete and he’s smooth so he can get it done. I’m sure if he focused on receiver he could be elite, but as a corner, he just looks natural.” However, after reading Sherman’s recent post, chances are there it’s all water under the bridge. That being said, have a look at Hunter’s records for this season, and that’ll show you why Sherman became such a big fan of him.

In fact, Hunter is the top-most player in the history of college football who has played more snaps than anyone else this season. The record is 169 snaps ahead of Kitan Crawford from Nevada, who has played 363 snaps. Simultaneously, his Heisman chances also surged high given his electric performance in recent times. In just four games he played in the 2024 season, Hunter made 37 catches for 472 yards and five touchdowns averaging 118 receiving yards per game.
Well, how can we forget his last-moment forced fumble in the game against Baylor last week? That was phenomenal!
