Shedeur Sanders is the cool-headed quarterback in Boulder, or at least that’s how his dad, Deion Sanders, describes him.
The Buffaloes QB has a lot on his plate this year, but he’s not sweating it. Whether it’s leading his team to a better season than last year’s 4-8 record, prepping for the NFL draft, or handling the Heisman hype, Shedeur isn’t feeling the stress. In fact, he’s one of the frontrunners for the Heisman Trophy this year, facing tough competition, from fellow QBs. But when asked about the “Heisman pressure,” Coach Prime just shrugs it off like it’s no big deal.
Talking to sports commentator Romi Bean, Deion confidently said, “We don’t subscribe to pressure; we apply it.” He also openly shared his thoughts on the criticism Shedeur has faced. “When you say pressure, you got to understand he’s been told he’s not this, he’s not that, he ain’t this, he’s a spoiled child… he’s been told that foolishness all his life.” Now, if anyone thinks that kind of pressure will break Shedeur, they’re in for a surprise. Deion proudly states that his son “responds with results,” showing how the Sanders family handles pressure.

Still, when it comes to the Heisman, we can’t deny the intense competition here. Like every year, even this year’s Heisman race is filled with top QB names. We have Dillon Gabriel, Carson Beck, and Jalen Milroe all dominating the betting odds.

Shedeur Sanders vs Travis Hunter for the Heisman race
Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter have been the star faces for the Colorado Buffaloes since last year. While Shedeur is known as one of the nation’s best QBs, Hunter is simply the best at everything he does. However, being a two-way star may hurt Hunter’s odds of winning the Heisman. Because, as the trend shows, quarterbacks have dominated the award. In fact, QBs have won it 7 out of the last 8 years, making Hunter a less likely contender.

Still, former Buffs legend Charles Johnson is optimistic about both players. Speaking about Sanders, he confidently says, “I expect him to be one of the Heisman finalists.” He adds, “I watch how he engages his players in the locker room privately. He’s exactly what you want in a quarterback.” Meanwhile, Johnson is not ready to snub Hunter either. He simply says, “I have never seen anything like Travis Hunter,” giving his flowers to the two-way phenom.
While Hunter deserves all the admiration, the Heisman buzz is mainly around Sanders for now. And it’s justified—Sanders had a strong 69% pass completion rate last season, despite being sacked over 50 times. Now, with a stronger Buffaloes roster this year, he’s expected to shine even more and compete with other top QBs for the Heisman. So, amidst the hype, do you think Hunter could break the Heisman trend and win it?
