Woah! That’s what you call a marvelous game! On August 31, the face-off was between Ole Miss Rebels and Furman Paladins. And guess what? Lane Kiffin’s tribe reduced the rivals to mere specks as the Paladins went without scoring even a single point.

While the Rebels are already in the party mood to celebrate the record, Kiffin and Co. still have to wait for some more time, it seems. After all, the college football record says that it’s too early to celebrate because they have missed the record by 146 points as another giant still reigns in the top place.

The No.6 Ole Miss Rebels gifted a splendid Saturday night to their fans as they dominated the visiting Paladins (76-0). With this, another chapter just got added to the history of college football as Kiffin’s squad cruised to victory at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. And who were the stars of the evening? No brownie points for guessing. Obviously, Jaxson Dart. The star QB caught hold of a total of six touchdowns. And it did not take much time for him to show his rage.

In the first two quarters, he threw for over 400 yards. This was enough for Kiffin’s program to stomp their feet and declare the spot as theirs. By the intermission, the Rebels had opened a 52-0 lead. Out of a total of seven touchdowns, defensive tackle JJ Pegues deserves the credit for one of them who received a direct snap from two yards. And what a big win for Kiffin as an HC whose 10 players caught at least one pass on the big night as the offense planted their victory flag with 772 yards of total offense. But it’s not party time for Kiffin, who still has a long way to go.

Lane Kiffin’s goal to reach Georgia Tech’s epic beatdown of 1916

Even though Brent Key’s Georgia Tech is yet to prove its power this season, their battle is half-won. No matter if they are unable to beat Ole Miss’ undefeated 76 record, they would still be ahead of Kiffin’s program by 146 points. All thanks to the 108-year-old record held by the Tech in the history of college football.

This takes us back to October 7, 1916, when Georgia Tech defeated Cumberland 222-0. Yes, you read that right, Georgia scored 222 in a single game turning the rivals into dust and putting down their roots in the biggest beatdown. They scored points as if it was a cakewalk. During the first quarter, the Tech led 63-0 and 126-0 at halftime! Even then, they refused to hit the pause button and kept on unleashing their fury on the gridiron.

And as Cumberland tried with their level best to stop the rage, their players suffered injuries, for example, quarterback Charles Edwards, who was thrice carted off with concussions. Finally, Georgia Tech added 54 more points in quarter 3, culminating with more 42 points in the last quarter. That being said, Lane Kiffin will pin Georgia Tech’s historical win on his wishboard for 2024.
