College football and the NFL aren’t fun without some instate rivalry. The most notorious of them all has to be the fight between Texas and Texas A&M. Former Longhorns WR Xavier Worthy started quite the controversy when he decided to wear the jersey of his rival team’s quarterback. The Chiefs are taking the gridiron against Houston, and Xavier Worthy chose to show up wearing Texas Tech No.5 jersey. Yeah, the one Patrick Mahomes used to wear. Now, for NFL fans, this ain’t a big deal. The rookie is just wearing his favorite QB college jersey. However, for CFB fans, this is like calling Nick Saban a bad head coach-level of bad.

However, before things got too bad for the WR, he did clear out the air on his Instagram story. “I was just repping QB1 yall know what it is today,” Worthy wrote while sharing a Longhorns picture. Folks, let’s keep it light cause Worthy didn’t mean to offend the Longhorns folks. This was just an homage and in his heart, he is still all in for Steve Sarkisian‘s crew. And well, Sark is going to need all the support he can get.

Going into his playoff game, the Longhorns remain the favorites, and it is clear why. They have arguably one of the best defenses out there, and their offensive depth is quite strong. However, there are still some problems and it comes from Sark’s QB Quinn Ewers.

When Ewers is playing well, he lands those massive deep shots which you can’t even predict as a defender. But when he is bad, he tends to bring down the entire offense with him. Pretty much the only reason why Paul Finebaum pointed out that Sark has to keep Ewers on a “short leash”.

If there are problems and turnovers, just switch to the secondary. Texas has one of the best backup QB in the entire country right now, so why not use it more? Right? Then again, while everything favors the Longhorns, does Clemson have any shot at glory?

What’s your perspective on:

Is wearing a rival's jersey a harmless homage or a slap in the face to Longhorns fans?

See, the Tigers are pretty much riding on their QB and RB duo. QB Cade Klubnik has done massive work for the offense, pulling in over 3000 yards and 33 touchdowns. The best part? He has only been intercepted 5 times this entire season.

And on the RB end, Clemson has Phil Mafah, who has brought in 8 touchdowns for the Tigers and over 1100 yards. HC Dabo Swinney has to plan those routes very carefully. Longhorns have done well when it comes to run defense, and it will be hard to break through that.

However, one silver lining for Clemson is the fact that if they manage to bring Ewers down, the Longhorns are going to feel the heat. As we pointed out before, Ewers has been very hit-or-miss this season. He couldn’t even manage to take his team to an SEC title win despite Georgia losing their starting Q,B Carson Beck.
