Woah! Every day there is some new narrative cooking up. And guess who is likely to benefit from the latest scenario? The College Football Playoff Committee. Already they are loaded with a lot of work. Every other day the rankings are changing, and they become the magnet for fans’ wrath for putting programs at their own discretion. Looks like this time they will finally mark themselves from the blame game. However, things are now in the SMU Mustangs’ court as they face off against the Clemson Tigers on Saturday, December 7. And there is someone else who is going to reap the benefits of the current scenario. It’s none other than Kalen DeBoer and the Alabama Crimson Tide.
The D-day is here. As promised, the Michigan Wolverines AD and CFP committee chair Warde Manuel will drop the rankings on Sunday, December 8. Already Manuel has been in the hot seat for rooting for DeBoer’s boys and his blatant bias for the three-loss team. But it looks like things might turn in Crimson Tide’s favor. Now who will decide their fate? Of course the underdogs, Rhett Lashlee, and the SMU Mustangs. Now that the ACC Championship bell has rang, analyst Zach Gelb tweeted about a scenario—“If (14-0 right now) SMU gets blown out, you know the CFP is putting Alabama in over them.”

The Dabo Swinney sympathy push for SMU after the game won’t be enough.
Hate that SMU could get penalized for playing in a conference championship game, but you know it’s happening.

What made him feel so? Well, it goes without saying that the CFP committee is obviously going to lean towards DeBoer’s Alabama. After all, the Crimson Tide had victories over higher-ranked teams as the committee values “quality wins.” So Bama tribe here stands at an advantage since their wins have been mostly against higher-ranked teams. Plus, DeBoer’s program holds a historically stronger conference position in the SEC. Will Clemson HC’s impressive championship be enough to lock the gates for Alabama?

Swinney has gifted Clemson seven ACC Championships. So, the Mustangs might look for some grace points to have been beaten by the Tigers. But this won’t favor them this season, as Gelb stated, “The Dabo Swinney sympathy push for SMU after the game won’t be enough.” In this way, destiny seems to be inevitable. Even Gelb added, “Hate that SMU could get penalized for playing in a conference championship game, but you know it’s happening.” Looks like DeBoer’s program already can’t keep their calm.
Kalen DeBoer and Crimson Tide in troubled waters
Maybe for the first time in a long while that Crimson Tide stooped so low. Looks like, now that Nick Saban is gone, their good times are also gone. Unfortunately, being at No.11, DeBeor and Bama’s fate is now in the hands of others. Losing three games in the regular further added to the uncertainty of a spot in the 12-team playoffs. Does that mean they have given up all their hopes?

DeBoer’s official and the Alabama Athletic Director Greg Byrne believes that the Crimson Tide deserves a spot in the playoffs. After all, the man carries a rich experience being a member of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament Selection Committee. “I obviously was very pleased and understand that the committee does have a tough job, but I also feel like there are a couple things,” Byrne said.
He further continued, “One of their first principles is the strength of schedule, and they want to put in the 12 best teams. And I believe we’re one of the 12 best teams. And the committee recognized that.” Right now, Kalen DeBoer’s eyes are on their trip to South Bend to play Notre Dame.
